It horrifies for sure. Both by its thrills and its insensitive take on religion. Decent special effects cannot help forgive extreme irresponsibility in this age of communal riots.

Mystery of a possessed goody-good girl builds up to a lame backstory. This is only the excuse to show some disgusting kind of gory horror.

This movie is worth watching just for Priyanka Chopra's performance. The rest of the lead cast is only a bonus. Now how I wish, there was a little bit of a surprise in the narration or at least I understood even half of why the characters behaved the way they did. Now if the only explanation is weird attracts weird and together they all get weirder, either I didn't get the film or it is one zany experience that didn't go down all that well with me. And yet I wouldn't have wanted to miss watching this one.

Following a gun is brings roars of laughter. The wit is completely enjoyable and so are some of the performances. Padded with the usual spoof-material, only a little funnier.

An ode to unrequited love and its victims. Reminds them to bask in their one-sided love's glory. The film slices and dices emotional relationships in many, many ways. Watch but please not with cynical unromantics.

Weird camera angles used wisely, wish background score was used miserly. Nevertheless, the pace and visuals used are well placed to thrill and create curiosity. Alas, the climax is pretty predictable and that takes away a lot from the enjoyment of the film.

A dusty desert wrought with equal measure of humanity and inhumanity. A film that shows you both facets without making much ado about either. Ought to be watched because these 'too good to be true' events are true.

It is an important film. It is a courageous film even. The film does some things really well. But, it isn't necessarily an absorbing one.

Same ol' senseless slapping about, fooling around and basically random running all over the place. The regular elements of a typical slapstick coexist and as always, don't entertain.

Azaan is a well-stylized action thriller. However, its punctuated by tiring romance. What could've been a gripping drama, stretches too long and outstays its welcome by just that bit.

Emotions are kept at bay in this dark drama. A story with a lot of meat is dealt with pretty superficially.

I am pleasantly surprised by the attempt at a detailed story. That, in the end, it all turns out to be rather ‘meh’ as expected, is another matter.

Band Baaja Baaraathas umpteen points where a viewer could suggest changes to make it a better film BUT that doesn't make it a bad one. The super-basic plot looks naïve but has nice facets of a man-woman relationship built into it.

A dark comedy about the needs of the common man. Similar needs put all three lead players on a bumpy quest of fulfilling their dreams. Laced with very strong performances

I physically had my head in my hands during the grand finale. Yep, it is that kind of a film.

It's longer, it's snazzier, it's louder but it's not funnier or better. Sure, it makes you laugh a few times, but it loses the plot and goes over the top more number of times. Besides it doesn't offer anything new in terms of simpleton vs. the "classier" people.

Same old underworld world. Same old violence. Same old attempt at creating value through shock. Gore and sexual titillation are abundant. Over-dramatization and slo-mo exposition throughout drags the film. There is an attempt to tie all ends neatly, but there are only a few lines that make an impression, that too not a lasting one.

Better than one had braced oneself for. Even so, the horror is too silly to be taken seriously, and the good-natured humour for most parts too unengaging to spend 2.5+ hours on.

Borderline cute and barely horrifying, this supposed horror film is just about watchable. (Available on Disney-Hotstar)

The story is captivating. The movie though is a hotch-potch of situations strung together messily. The war might be better served if we educated ourselves about it rather than watched this botch-up of a film.

Bittoo Boss has a couple insights about society and its outlook towards porn and sex. But it puts these points across in a dull, jerky manner and often without energy. Not discardable, neither enjoyable.

A strong middle hour sandwiched between twenty minutes of silliness at the beginning and an absurd last half hour, make Blood Money hanging between engaging and ridiculous. A clear indication that the writers didn't quite believe that they had it in them to give Blood Money a fair chance.

The typically banal formula of action and skin packed in with some mind boggling underwater sequence. It will leave you with a bad after taste of what could’ve been a treat! After a while, you might feel you re watching National Geographic packaged the ‘bollywood ishtyle.’

For once, a film made me wish it didn't have a story and was the usual Salman Khan "cool". That, at least I'm prepared for. The attempt at putting in sorry, convoluted twists just kill whatever other fun you could have had.

Another one of those falling in the "What else did you expect?" genre.

It’s repetitive. It’s mediocre. It tells more than it shows. It’s not creative, visually or aurally. YET, it is charming and got me curious about what it holds next.

I am not a hockey fan and usually can just about tolerate Shah Rukh Khan. And yet, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. Brilliant writing by Jaideep Sahni!!

It is one adorable road trip! Another awesome performance by Vinay Pathak & a good one by Lara Dutta too! If only there was some control on the urge to do something dramatically drastic in the second half.

Run away. And run away fast. You don’t want to watch a bunch of non-actors in a shabbily edited thriller, even if the story is not-bad.

Chashme Baddoor is loud (like that's a surprise!), shamelessly mind-numbing, and exceeds your expectations at being miles away from logical. Bad performances, awful one-liners, ridiculously thoughtless situations make it even worse.

Sure, the concept is nice. But, the nice stuff stops there. I'm not at all passing a moral judgement on the characters' lack of character. It's just the loud and annoying way in which things play out that gets on your nerves after about an hour. And there is another 1.5 hours to go.

A reasonably well-made Hindi suspense thriller. A non-agenda Akshay Kumar film. Both rare things I get to say. Aptly spooked and pleasantly surprised to say both of them together. (Available On Hotstar)

A thriller which tries hard to be way too much more.

Dabangg, and more so, Salman Khan, won't even allow a reviewer her right to roll her eyes. How can she be the snoot who ignores a packed house is dancing and clapping its way to the background score of an action sequence? She laughs at the silliness on screen and off. She walks out of the theater feeling happy for the people who had come to enjoy and made sure they had a good time. But enjoy, for her own self, did she? Nope. Not a chance.

A few laugh out loud moments, a smile through and through. A few real problems looked at superficially. Some #FirstWorldProblem you smile a cynical smile at. Unfortunately, a little shallow, a little too flaky and preachy too.

Stories from the lives of the middle class, a generation gap where the children want to move up to the next level in socio-economic ladder. Sounds boring and is too. But the relationships are warm and the issues are real. Unfortunately there is a patch in between which makes the film a drag. That along with the preaching takes away from the crisp film it could have been.

Smart lines and slick camerawork turns into tiring witticism and regular big-budget technicalities because it is over-written and over-stylized. The few extra seconds taken to establish a scene with elegance give the crux of the scene away. This keeps this action-thriller from being crisp. Multiple, smart twists are pointless if you are going to chicken out in the climax.

I don't remember the last time my emotions were engaged in a thriller, let alone a pounding heart and racing mind. A psychological thriller that hooks, thrills and keeps you thinking after it is done.

Ek Thi Daayan builds at a good pace and takes the proceedings to a great peak at mid-time. Unfortunately, it goes only down after interval. Yet, there are a few genuine scares and good performances. A casual DVD watch.

A simple Indian woman's complexes are explored with warmth and charm. Sridevi brings to us a home-maker's self-doubt with a wonderful performance despite the squeak in her voice and distracting accent.

“You want real acting from me? Here! Take that! And some more!” an emphatic announcement by Shah Rukh Khan in a not-bad thriller.

Force is a perfect masala film, which also means, it is perfectly predictable. And yet, Force keeps you engaged. It has everything in the right proportion - romance, action, drama. But it doesn't have that one overwhelming factor which can make me recommend it to you without any reservations. I have to add caveats like, if you are into hard-core action, if you like borderline genuine romance, if you don't mind the two interrupting each other, then watch it for sure.

Gangs of Wasseypur II delivers on the promise of being a quirky revenge saga. A saga which holds no bars and lets loose the internal animal which revenge itself seems to have given birth to. A saga so full of characters that a keen film-lover would want to watch twice – only if they can stomach the violence in almost every frame and profanity in every other sentence. Others, shouldn't even bother.

As loud as Diwali and as bright as Diwali and Holi put together. A festival of poor writing, gay jokes, random songs, SMS forwards, etc

If you can get past the 527 cringes in the first 5 minutes and some more in the next hour, the whodunnit is engaging with some decent performances, only asking you to make room for 1029 predictable squirms in the last 10 minutes. (Available on Disney+Hotstar)

Guzaarish is an art museum. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the perfectly chiseled curator and Hrithik Roshan an almost statue. And this once, it’s not his acting I’m complaining about, the script demands him to stay put. You are watching them etched in many exotic, exquisite paintings frame after frame. So, what if the very basis of the story is pointless and there are gaping holes which are difficult to digest.

Loads of improvement needed and possible in almost all departments. Barring a few sequences, the movie seems very superficial.

The story - beyond the lead lady turning into a prostitute - might still have worked, I can imaginably have given that much to the writers. But, the film that it has turned into is certainly well worth hating. From acting to music to pretty much everything else, Hate Story pushes your patience to the brink.

One wonders if books should really be converted to films. It doesn't always work out better.

<strongHello Jai Hind, Gajendra Ahire’s latest film, is a dramatic, hard-hitting tale of an honest constable and his fight against the feeble politico-judicial system. While far from perfect, the film engages you because of its un-glorified, realistic treatment. In spite of the flaws in its writing and male lead Nitin Desai’s weak performance, the film is highly watchable because of Ahire’s mature handling of the story. Lead actress Trupti Bhoir’s performance, Nitin Desai’s art direction and Illaiyaraaja’s music enhance it further, making it a worthy addition to the films that have begun emerging from the fast-evolving Marathi film industry.

The film uses mildly-comical satire to put its point across. However, the problem arises when writers fail to wrap it up as satire and succumb to sermonizing.

Exasperating lies over lies towards an extremely predictable end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this walk down memory lane, needless to say, mainly because of the poetry the film is. Both literally and figuratively. Of course, there are many-many elements in the film that would be completely unacceptable in our films today. But this one is for us to celebrate the man who will turn 88 this September 26th. And let's remind ourselves that he was just two short of 40 when Hum Dono released.

I'm not sure how much we'll enjoy the gold that old is, if we get too much of it, but for now, it's good to get a glimpse of the golden era the 60s was.

I am Kalam charmingly visualizes the life of a little boy who has to work to sustain himself and his family. Its simplicity is works as both an advantage and a disadvantage. The easy-going narrative is a pleasant watch but too-good-to-be-true plot is distracting.

I, Me Aur Myself takes being full of oneself to a new level. Sure, we know enough people around us who are full of themselves, but doesn't make watching them in a film any more interesting.

The third film in the Iron Man franchise, directed by Shane Black this time, is easily the best in the series. Robert Downey Jr is at his best, the action scenes are terrific in scale, vision and execution, and Ben Kingsley’s The Mandarin makes for one of the most enigmatic screen villains ever. Good, big screen fun, this.

Hurried in its story-telling and a little too relaxed in its execution, Ittefaq makes the biggest mistake a thriller could make - it tells a gripping story instead of showing it.

A few lovely, honest moments; good performances but zero story doesn't work for this “boy meet girl” film.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a romance that does woo you at times you least expect it. But for most parts it doesn't let you forget that it is after all a film.

An entertaining first half that establishes the characters and an emotionally charged second half keeps you interested in a rather regular love story. The story is as far from reality as can be, but then, that is what escapist cinema is all about, right?

Jannat - An engrossing watch which raises some philosophical questions. A story well told but yet doesn't warrant a trip to the theaters.

Jism 2 does nothing to you. It has no material to invoke any kind of emotion from you. Except maybe for a few unintentional laughs.

Painstakingly made but painfully long. The history and politics is interesting but the teachers seemed to be in a rush to cover the course material. What we do know now though, is romance 450 years ago was same as it is now. It is a visual treat nevertheless.

As we'd expect from the trailers, a satirical, court-room drama that keeps you engaged for the 2+ hours. Won't stay for too long after though.

Sure, Rajinikanth hasn't lost his swag. But, equally surely it can be used in better films.

It is an amazingly mature film. Who would have thought that could be said about a 100% family drama?

Lage Raho Munnabhai (LRM) meets Jab We Met but without the charm or humor of either. Vidya Balan blends Janvi of LRM with Suman of Munnabhai MBBS. Shahid Kapoor plays chocolate hero, again! Aziz Mirza is still in I'm directing Shah Rukh Khan mode.

All but a couple Muslim's are terrorists. Is that what we need to hear in this day & age? Predictable to the minutest detail and utterly-butterly s..l..o..w. You sure have better ways to induce yawns now, don't you?

Unless you know that you enjoy this kind of humor, juvenile adult comedy that is, please skip Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum

Lightyear is, at the same time, a celebration of the science fiction genre, a reminder of the magic of Toy Story, and a solid science fiction story in its own regard.

The only thing that is worth watching in the latest Rajnikanth film is Thalaiva himself. Otherwise, it's a disaster of proportions that can only be dwarfed and saved by the magnitude of great man's aura.

Lootera reminds you of the times you have wondered, why people fall in love despite themselves.

A few good action pieces & slick execution of a different-interesting plot isn't bad. But there's no way to duck the god-awful dialogues. And just as "Love isn't good enough for survival", just style doesn't a good film make.

Unevenly paced yet engaging, a must watch but not necessarily in a rush.

A slick even if not taut thriller more than a film that keeps the social issue it is about in your mind after you walk out.

Over-dramatized. Over-fictionalized. Over-commercialized. Too episodic. An inspiring story nevertheless.

A casual friendly relationship between dad and son could have worked if the movie were about 30 minutes shorter. Otherwise, it is the usual Priyadarshan fare.

Get swooned by the dialogue, the chemistry, the familiar give-and-take of a love relationship. Same story and yet so charming.

A comic thriller that wants to do all the right things but misses as many times as it makes its mark.

It’s a dark look at human nature with a hint of hope that humans need. Awesome portrayal of detailed characters. Unfortunately, pace is slow enough to make it tiresome by the end.

The uncomfortable feeling which makes you jump in your seat - that is Murder 2's success. It's one of those films where you come out with only the villain and what he is capable of. If you can handle creepy, sexual violence, go for it. It is sure to provide "that" kind of a thrill.

It is a shame that another brilliant concept has been flushed down the drain because of half-baked attempts at narrating and acting. The product comes across as tacky because of the constant shuffle between comedy, unintentional comedy, a few extra-predictable scenes, and unexpected plot twists.

God proposes, man disposes. Oh, My God!! (OMG) is a man's surreal success at creating discontent for himself. If only, OMG didn’t end so suddenly. Yet another fabulous performance by Vinay Pathak.

Om Shanti Om is a mediocre variety entertainment program. The movie gets marred because the makers did not have the courage to make a spoof for the sake of a spoof. It is obvious that the story was forced to make the movie sell. Had they stuck to the industry jokes, it would have been as entertaining as a gossip magazine.

A logical yet over-simplified take on the arguments against blind faith. The attempt is to keep the arguments balanced yet the film's events are way too convenient.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai is based on the underworld scene of the 70s, ruled by Sultan Mirza- A character based on Haji Mastan. It's a film that explores the power that Sultan Mirza holds on all Mumbai, his love story with film actress Rehana and his rise and fall with rebel sidekick, Shoaib, who is modeled on young Dawood Ibrahim.

Love, loyalty, hatred - themes that could've been so much more than heavy lines delivered in a heavy tone.

Nothing happens in the film. And therein is its beauty. A simple, charming film despite its toilet humor and a couple other quibbles.

Policegiri has yet another cop with a golden heart who loves to bash people. Interestingly, he's part of the system too!

Pompeii, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, is named after the real city that was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. A romance set against a real life tragedy that occurred nearly two millennia ago, Pompeii remains a forgettable film despite its gigantic scale and decent visual effects; because there's nothing in it that binds you to the film.

She's a user, he's a loser. In each of the three couples. Thank goodness for some decent lines and situations that make it a decent date film.

The worst break-up ever makes for a warm, spirited film.

A few, predictable, spooky scenes apart, there is nothing new about Vikram Bhatt's latest horror flick, Raaz 3. It's the same old unintentional comedy found in a lazily made horror film.

A couple of not-so-unique yet brilliantly done action sequences and a few breathtaking aerial shots might make you want to watch in the theaters. But the acting, the merry-go-round plot twists, and the dialogues are barely average.

Here's a bullet point review, not because I'm busy otherwise or lazy. But because, some times, as a viewer you feel you are putting in more effort and energy into a film than the writer/director.

A could-have-been, wanna-be political thriller lacks the sizzle and cursorily glances over the sleaze. And yet, despite the dull lines, modern Mahabharat is a tale worth watching.

Is an engaging first hour that takes you downhill through a stretched, predictable and melodramatic rest of the film, good enough? Just might be.

An adorable experience. A drama-free which by definition includes melodrama-free execution. Super-witty dialogues that are timed superbly. And a plot that flows smoothly. What more can we ask for?

A faster pace? A shorter film? Maybe - but I'll take a little more of this than lose the impact it creates.

Oh and kudos to Jaideep Sahni! This man has some writing prowess!!

There are many heartwarming moments in this film. And at least a few when I am sure most of us won't be able to hold back our tears.

Parvin Dabas directs himself well. And he gets a few scenes right, but other than that his debut as a director Sahi Dhande Galat Bande doesn't engage as a film with a social message ought to.

A movie long chase sequence that actually goes in circles. Very engrossing at first and then gets tiring as there's no new plot point to ponder over.

Erratic in engaging and evoking empathy. Could be watched for its director and theme.

I’d have called myself a whiny, cynical old woman if I found only the depiction of romance problematic. Glamourising creepy men who do "anything" to be loved by someone they love is worrisome. It's difficult to look beyond at other potentially redeeming factors.

A gang-war is a gang-war is a gang-war. If there was anything else it was too loud to register.

Punjabi is queenn. Wit is Jack. Plot & logic are thrown out of the deck. So, the viewers are ace jokers! But, who am I to stop Akshay-Katrina fans from rushing to the theaters?

Comical action, filmy dialogue, awful flow make Singham's decent concept look laughable. It tries to make a couple of points but they are lost in the "coolness" that the film wants to be.

Gut-churning jingoism, which even the inclined could watch at minimum 4x speed. Not due to the story but because it feels like 90% of the film is in slo-mo. So, can make it 16x because the story is an insecure parallel of the Ramayana.

An action film which is actually trying to make a point through its story, even if it is an over-simplified one.

Special Chabbis is an unfair joke on the audience. If it were not for some witty dialogue delivered with great timing, Special Chabbis would've been a very frustrating experience.

The sharp dialogues support a fragmented plot. The smart visuals are accompanied by jarring background music. The story is neither about carrom nor about the communal riots. The movie is neither here nor there.

Sultan is one movie repeated twice – once before the interval and once after. Both are equally predictable and melodramatic.

Talvar is a disturbing film – at more levels than one. Why should you watch it then? Because we shouldn't turn a blind eye to the system we live in, even if the system itself is so.

Tangled is everything you want an animated movie by Disney to be. Its fun, adventurous, action packed, touching and filled with lough-out-loud scenes. A complete package indeed. On top of it the first half could very well be called a musical, and a very good one at that, mind you. It takes the fairytale of Rapunzel and creates a thrilling adventure for you to enjoy with your family and friends. We all walked out of the theatre - content, grinning to each other and getting every bit of our moneys worth and then some. An absolute must watch in theatres.

45 minutes of complete entertainment followed by 55 dull ones of nothing happening. All of which is tied up in the 20 most 'blah' ones ever written. You do the math. Kangna is a misfit and the film has the worst climax a film could ever have.

It's brainless, it's banal, it's boring - nothing short of what you expect from an Anees Bazmi film.

It's dirty and you'll love it. For its wit even if might seem a little over-written. For its nerve even if the after-taste is that of an under-cooked story. For Vidya Balan because she is entertainment!

If you’ve been up all night, you know the crazy things insomnia can make a person do. At several points during The Machinist, you will promise yourself never to deliberately stay up and let your demons take over. Christian Bale’s underweight, sleep-deprived look is so disturbing, it compels you to sit through the movie to figure out what happens. Watch the film for a good old dose of wide-eyes-shock-revelation-relief.

Why should Hollywood have all the fun? Even India and Pakistan can save the world. Especially since Tiger is alive. The regular action fare – nothing more than you expect but nothing less either.

Noir taken to such a grim level that you disconnect after a bit and begin to look at it as someone narrating a gruesome story. Unfortunately, the story and its characters are just that – gruesome, not interesting.

The most emotional chapter in the Toy Story series, this film takes Woody and Co. in a new adventure inside a daycare centre, where they must adapt to the harsh realities, or remain dumped in Andy’s attic as he prepares to leave home for a new life in college. Great moments, fantastic stunts (don’t miss Buzz Lightyear’s Flamenco dance in the end-credits), Toy Story 3 is no ordinary animated feature. Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Animated Film (2010). Nominated for Best Motion Picture, Best Animated Feature at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Love, calamity, death all taken way too casually in a drab, still-life sort-of a way. Its unexciting, its slow. But a strong lady character is good because its rare in Hindi films. Little solace that is, though.

Sappy melodrama overshadows hilarious one-liners by mono-dimensional, caricatured, character sketches.

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is one of those rare films that made me wonder why it was made at all.
