Fidget-spinner-led forced style, fight sequence in flowing skirt, flying Salman – Race 3 has it all. And of course, the Race brand of twists and turns are neither fun nor make any sense. Nothing unexpected, except for a touch of Baghbaan.Read more
Race 3 is quite as expected – unnecessary forced style, plot twists that make no sense after the end reveal, repetitive action sequences that have nothing new to offer, and way too long.
The oomph is as forced as the all-time, lame lines delivered by characters who conveniently change loyalties.
Undoubtedly, the kind of double-double-crossing that goes on in the Race series is way beyond me. By now, we know not to trust anyone in a Race film, till the point of it becoming pointless. Not only are the conspiracies too contrived, but they are in conceived within the context of the film’s climax. We are not even expecting answers to logistical questions such as, “Wait, how did he get here?” But, after the film, when you finally know who the villain is you wonder, why did this supposedly resourceful and ruthless villain not kill everyone off even before the story begins? It makes no sense for them to let the “enemies” flourish before wanting to finish them off.
Other than the story, Race 3 tries to push style down your throat, without innovating the tiniest bit. The oomph is as forced as the all-time, lame lines delivered by characters who conveniently change loyalties. The actors are expected to over-act, so we don’t even know who to blame for the plastic performances. Anil Kapoor tries his best to shine through the script.
There are a few, very far between smart bits, where the trail of a future twist is left somewhere in the beginning, but clearly that is not enough. Similarly, there are some unexpected gestures of women being introduced as ambitious and tearing off their skirts so that they can fist-fight more efficiently. But you know that is all symbolic when a supposedly powerful female character waits for a nod from the “star” of the film, Salman Khan to take the next step which her profession requires her to do!
With such scattered thought process in the writing, laughable attempt at Bond-like titles, lessons on anger-control and clean shaves (eye roll), a ridiculously intentional twist on an accent, token cat fights all seem very easy to ignore. And these are not flaws you ignore because you are enjoying the film so much. You ignore flaws here because you are busy being bowled over by the even bigger ones.

So-So, by Rajat Tripathi, Bollywood Life : ...Race 3 is a treat for Salman fans but it ends at being just that. There is no reason why you shouldn’t buy the tickets to watch Salman Khan doing what he does best. But if you go in expecting to watch the third film of the Race franchise, you might not be too pleased with the way it has been treated. ... full review
So-So, by Devansh Sharma, Filmfare : ...In short, the film has something for everyone. An action film combined with family drama is the perfect Eid gift from Bhai to his fans worldwide. At close to 3 hours it does drag in places and tauter editing would really have added to the film. ... full review
So-So, by Rachit Gupta, Times of India : ...But for all its big moments, ‘Race 3’ just does not work up the feeling of suspense and intrigue that made the previous masala movies from the franchise a guilty pleasure. While the film wants to keep you guessing on who will finish the Race first, you are left wondering when you will cross the finish line. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Baradwaj Rangan, Blogical Conclusion, The New Sunday Express : ...is it a film that leaves you with molten rage towards your parents, who caused you to be born and witness a day when Salman Khan accuses Jacqueline Fernandez of overacting!... full review
Thumbs down, by Bobby Sing, Bobby Talks Cinema.com : ...In short, having an inferior story progression, mediocre tracks, unexciting background score and hilarious dialogues supported by all uninspiring performances, RACE 3 is a sheer waste of a potential opportunity that is even tough to watch till the end (as witnessed in the theater where a few dared to left before the climax). ... full review
Thumbs down, Bollywood Hungama : ...On the whole, RACE 3 is high on style and low on substance. It lacks entertainment value and is a disappointing fare due to its wafer thin plot. At the box office, the movie will take a jump start due to Salman Khan’s star power and accelerate over the weekend, post which, the business will see a sizeable drop. The film will entail losses to the distributors. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Rohit Bhatnagar, Deccan Chronicle : ...Over to the captain of the ship, Remo D’souza. The director, who earlier helmed the dance franchise ABCD and A Flying Jatt, has surely made a visually appealing film but nothing more to it. Flying cars while chasing beside the desert is definitely impressive but why it is happening is the big question. He keeps the thrilling element very predictable, be it a spy cam in a pen or a robbery planned in a world class bank in Cambodia. Nothing in the film is close to the reality. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Meena Iyer, DNA : ...The Direction — well there isn’t any. The action directors Anl Arasu & Thomas Struthers are the only ones who have earned their money. Cars, bikes, tankers, hand-to-hand combats between the two girls, then between Salman and Bobby (that too shirtless, showing four packs each) wow…this is the only wow part. Action is cleverly placed through the film just so that you can vent. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Rahul Desai, Film Companion : ...But Abbas-Mustan isn’t the name associated with this one. D’Souza is younger, hipper, clued in and therefore has no business making such tone-deaf trash. There is a dishonest selling-out vibe about his work here; is he truly able to sleep peacefully at night knowing that one of his actors will say “Isse dil ki nahi, Dell ki zaroorat hai” while parading laptop footage the next morning on set? ... full review
Thumbs down, by Anna MM Vertticad, FirstPost : ...To be fair to him and to D’souza, some of the whodunnitandwhy in Race 3 is genuinely engaging, but the film needed more where that came from. Besides, the narrative style is tired and ends up adding nothing new to the Race franchise. Everyone and everything looks pretty and is dressed pretty in Race 3. The evidently expensive production design and the visuals by DoP Ayananka Bose – especially that aerial shot of vehicles in a desert looking like ants from high up above – give the film its polish. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Johnson Thomas, Free Press Journal : ...This is the kind of film that relies rather too heavily on camerawork, editing and stunt choreography to deliver its punches. The acting is mere posing so don’t expect any great histrionics from this bunch of misfits. Remos’s ‘Race 3’ is a trippy effort that rather underlines mainstream Bollywood’s bankruptcy of fresh story ideas. ... full review
Thumbs down, by T J Reddy, fullhyd.com : ...If there is any praise to be given where this movie is concerned, it belongs to three entities. The luxury car companies that design those sweet rides, Anil Kapoor's tailor, and you as a member of the audience that sat through this movie. Yes - not enough people thank you for your sacrifice. We do but also hope that you don't give these guys a fourth chance because another one of these turds is coming whether we want it or not. ... full review

Thumbs down, by Rohit Vats, Hindustan Times : ...Not that Race and Race 2 were classics, but Race 3 has taken things too far. Remo D’Souza’s idea of a dysfunctional family is far more juvenile than Abbas-Mustan’s. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Suhani Singh, india today : ...The limitations of Salman Khan as an actor are entirely visible in Race 3 as the actor fails to drive part three to the finish line. Barring Anil Kapoor the rest are in a race for most inept performance award. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Sushant Mehta, india today : ...If this film goes on to be another Salman blockbuster Remo D'Souza can't take credit for it, everything about this movie is a tribute to Abbas-Mustan... full review
Thumbs down, by Shubhra Gupta, indian express : ...The rest of the movie is a crawl. It’s left to Salman to come to the rescue, and he does his thing, but that thing, or those things, are now so jaded that even his fervent fans, sitting ahead of me, couldn’t bring themselves to cheer. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Anita Iyer, Khaleej Times : ...Although the climax isn't something you guess but there is not a single nail-biting moment till you get there. As we move towards the climax, we have Jacqueline aiming from a military helicopter for over five minutes. The much-forced fighting sequence between Salman and Bobby Deol isn't of much consequence either. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Narendra Gupta, Kia Gia : ...On the whole, 'Race 3' is a perfect example of why you should not cook a dish without mastering its ingredients. It's the second back-to-back Eid on which Salman Khan has disappointed us. 'Bharat' (2019) will be awaited and so the record of Salman Khan being unbeatable on Eid. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Umesh Punwani, koimoi : ...On the whole Race 3 is not entirely unentertaining but it is majorly disappointing. Starring an uninterested Salman Khan, the movie is for those Bhai fans who have watched Tubelight & Jai Ho in theaters. ... full review
Thumbs down, by UDITA JHUNJHUNWALA, Live Mint : ...Anil Kapoor looks fine and shows how a skilled performer can shine even in the most mundane of projects. As for the others, Shah, Saleem and Fernandez emerge as the worst performers, followed by Bobby Deol and Freddy Daruwala. Khan appears to be winging it—with his dialogue, dancing and blocking. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Sonil Dedhia, MiD DAY : ...As usual, Khan plays to the gallery but doesn't look particularly pleased about doing it, wearing a deadpan look throughout. The lesser said, the better about the predictable twists in the actioner. But I am intrigued to know what Abbas-Mustan, who helmed the previous two parts, thought of this one. Never were the men in white so sorely missed! ... full review
Thumbs down, by Jaidev Hemmady, Movie Talkies : ... I do agree that the makers have spared no expense when it comes to swanky cars and exotic locations and the sharp suits and trendy costumes, but all this is of no avail if the plot has nothing to offer in terms of intrigue and entertainment and this is exactly what has happened with Race 3... full review
Thumbs down, by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror : ...The Race franchise is punctuated by a standard premise — glitzy suits and tinted shades exiting from convertibles and sports cars in slow motion to accuse each other of frauds that stack up a gazillion dollars or casual adultery. And it’s always personal since these squabbles are amongst family members — adopted and illegitimate included. But since this one swaps directorial duo Abbas Mustan, known for grand reveals and outlandish plots, with Remo D’souza, the film swerves with a screech before crashing and burning. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV : ...Some of the Race 3 action, the credits tell us, has been choreographed by Thomas Struthers, the stunt coordinator of blockbusters like Black Panther, The Dark Knight and Dunkirk. He simply isn't given the raw material needed to turn the film into an outing to remember. Our humble guess is that Struthers would want to forget Race 3 in a hurry. And so would we. Try telling fans of Salman Khan that this film is best avoided. An impregnable wall is what you will hit. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Rajeev Masand, News18.com : ...To add insult to injury, the film has also been released in 3D so you could, for an extra hundred bucks or so, suffer the sheer pointlessness of this movie in an extra, bonus dimension. Go on, you must. ... full review
Thumbs down, by Manisha Lakhe, Now Running.com : ...But you will be distracted by all the mindless disco songs inserted for some reason or the other. Thumbs down, by ANISH MOHANTY, Planet Bollywood : ...One of the reasons I had good expectations from the film as it has been written by Shiraz Ahmed who also wrote the first two films in the franchise. It is heart-breaking to see his writing being the main culprit in bringing the film down. It would be a little difficult to imagine a film as bad as this working at the box-office but if Salman Khan's fans help it reach the 'hit' mark, I would suggest the makers to introspect and come up with a better script and hopefully, Saif Ali Khan for the next film in the franchise. ... full review
