A lovely fresh dark way of telling the same old story again, all complete with characters and music.

Non linear fashion feels good as the story unfolds. Its like you are getting to know the characters.

Fantastic performances, great dialogues and editing. If I had to make a film, it would be like this.

Wait, this is a re-post, right?
The first time I had watched it, I was blown away. Not because it is a mind blowing story, but because it is shown in such rawness of today's age. Especially when compared to all the other Devdas stories I've heard, which only talk about how grand their houses were and how sad their lead character was. And Abhay Deol's alcoholism seemed so real too, and that was suprisingly very different form Bollywood's typical (cough-SRK-cough.) For that matter his dialogues and acting too, but that's for another discussion.
Oh and the music, I have no doubt that half my love for the film came because of Amit Trivedi. It fit so well with all the moods that it sometimes defined the mood.
I love this film, even today after watching it many times. New talent always seem like a breath of fresh air, even through a dark film.
I couldn't find the 'What worked, what didn't for this film' section. Did you stop writing it?
Readers' reviews. Before I voted, that is.
What?! 3.0/5? I'll give it a 5.0/5! It is that well made. Really.
It is so goooooood!! Okay, only except the last yashraj-ished/Bollywoodized lame lame lame part.
Watched it only because you said it was a must watch. Also because it was available on Netflix :P
Performances are fantastic! For once, I was really happy with the casting.
Also, you do a great job with the review!! Because I could never have thought of writing anything like that.
I am going to promote your review and the film now.
True we all know the story, but I still think they did not build up enough tension in the first half.
