  • Haider:

Really interesting comments above about quantifying word of mouth - So essentially, we are now assuming that week 1 onwards the collections are due to word of mouth. Its possibly a fair assumption but ignores repeat viewings and people like me who are yet to watch it and would have watched it irrespective of wom...

However, I dont like discussions on how much a movie made... I like discussions on how much a movie entertained. Before people jump on me, for some people thinking about topical issues is also entertainment; depressing movies can be entertaining and fun & dance is also entertainment. How much money a Kick made versus how much money a Haider will make only points out that higher number of people prefer tom foolery as their mode of entertainment than thinking! Nothing wrong in it - really! Pushed to make a choice, I probably belong to second group more than the first - K3G remains an all-time favorite; as does Main Hoon Na!!!

  • Mary Kom:

I so agree with your review and other comments below. Its an opportunity lost. I hate comparing movies (especially ones taking inspiration from real lives) but BMB was ultimately better researched. I got the feeling that with Mary Kom, the makers and PC were satisfied to showcase their hard work which is undeniable, but in the process lost focus on the bigger picture i.e. making people more aware about Mary Kom and her thought process other than some superficial level of strong will.

I also think the angle about Manipur and the disassociation with the rest of country could have been explored a bit more (surely an interesting movie in itself). Also, the bit about Dingko Singh's victory inspiring Mary to pursue boxing and her impact now on other Manipuri youngsters. These are all points just touched upon in the movie and I would have loved if the makers would have explored these in more detail.

I will wait for Mary Kom 2 which will hopefully end with a gold medal at Rio in 2016...

I am actually looking forward to this and Mary Kom more than Singham Returns and HNY! What is happening to me. Must be old age :-)

  • Queen:

Saw this last week! Loved it. As another reviewer said, you come of the theater thinking about Rani. You wonder what were her life choices in the future? And if she retains the same spark or reverts back to her staid old ways once back in the safety net of Rajouri Garden? And when a movie does that you dont begrudge the £20 spent on tickets and further popcorn and cola expense. A nuanced film in every aspect!

Sure mate. I am just asking you to tone down a bit! Surely not a tough ask!

  • Krrish 3:

Guys its not a discussion post about how reviewers should do their job! It was about how "Meetu" feels with regards to movies and she reviews it... I have been regular here for long and see that every few comments Anuj keeps on highlighting his blog post.
One cannot please all the people all the time! Why is it that Meetu has to cater to his tastes. I simply suggested that if he is so interested in his opinions and thinks that he knows the pulse maybe he should write a weekly blog himself. As I say its easy to criticise.
Btw I am a SRK-fan and Meetu didnt like CE and even called him a living proof of how humans descended from monkeys. So, should I jump aggressively on her and quote SRK's box office record... blah blah....blah... yadda ... yadda??? No, I accept that she may have a different opinion than mine.
She can write whatever she wants - her blog - her opinions. You have every right to disregard her opinions but only in a polite way instead Krisshh 3 preview itself had 63 bloody comments!

@Anuj - You have your own website/ blog - please go there!
I have said previously as well this Meetu's personal blog. You dont like her opinions please buzz off and dont try to change he stance. I quite like the way she analyses the movies as it invariably gels with my thought process. She doesnt like low brow entertainers - then so what! She is entitled to her opinion as you are. But you have your own blog and please use that forum to project your opinions. If we are interested in your opinions we will come to your blog. As it is you have done a fantastic job of promoting your blog on Meetu's. I am surprised because of your constant spamming you havent been blocked yet!

@ Meetu... I think that blame can be laid at the director's door... But yeah everything was way over the top!!! However I did like the self referencing humour...

  • Chennai Express:

Well it lived up to expectations... didnt it! Problem is coming after the last movie I saw (BMG) it feels a bit underwhelming to crow about Chennai Express...
It isnt a great movie or even an entertainer by any stretch... does what it says on the pack and just about manages to stay on the right side of being mildly humorous... As a North Indian having discovered Tamil cinema over the last 5 years, the caricatures of that community jar big time... But maybe thats what get the whistles these days... How would I know... Never understood Salman cinema (the ones not blatantly copied from down south)!!!
    Two positives though:
    (i) Deepika Padukone (any other new actress with this much growth in her acting capabilities???)
(ii) I am a bit conservative types who still considers going to cinema as family time. After some time a movie where you will not cringe and watch it with your entire family. The complete absence of toilet humor and below the belt jokes was a welcome change!

Going to watch tonight.... Maybe I am the first one on this forum to endure this.... I will let you know my comments later... Zero expectations of this one...

Never before I had this big a sense of trepidation for a SRK movie... After watching the trailer I went "oh dear...this won't go down well"... However childhood fandom dictates that I travel some distance and shell out some hard earned money on this tripe!!! Having a wife who is a massive SRK fan doesn't help...mind!!!

  • Bhaag Milkha Bhaag:

There are times when a movie trips over the weight of its viewers expectations... For me thankfully BMB delivers and goes beyond... It was an experience.... The movie isn't about winning or losing or about jingoism... It's about fighting your inner demons.... Hard work....catharsis and closure... For any number of ways or paths he could have chosen he channeled his angst into something positive... And a word about Divya Dutta... I think she towers above everyone in the film with a performance this nuanced!!!

Good return to form Meetu.... I guess only a good movie can inspire such brilliant writing above... Very well written review... I am actually excited to see this... Going tomorrow ... Hope it lives upto the expectations!!!

  • Jab Tak Hai Jaan:

In your parlance... Even the keen wait for DVD... I was pleasantly surprised to see Anushka Sharma outshine both SRK and Katrina in the movie... The only time the movie engages you when she is on screen and she does light up the 70mm... For the two other leads they can do such roles in their sleep... SRK as the brooding lover and Kat as the UK bred who ultimately falls for a desi... I guess other reviewers are being kind to the movie since its his last... There is nothing new in the movie but visually it strikes a very elegant pose... Just wish there was more substance to the story!!!

Well what a regressive movie!!! A fun-loving, independent women will have to be a demure Indian "naari" even for an idiot like SAK's character. And I am surprised the film doing well and women especially liking it! When do we as audiences plan to grow up?
