Could you please fix the 'critics reviews' page here, please? Reviews by Sonia Chopra and Anuj Kumar have been mistakenly pasted in their entirety, it seems..
Ya I know :P :) Btw, I just came back after watching 'Commando' and logged in to check your review, only to see you haven't reviewed it! P.S. - One of the better-made commercial movies of the recent times, I must say..
Meetu: I meant to say you are the first (and only) person I know who didn't like the climax, so much so that it actually 'spoilt' the overall experience for you. No sarcasm there at all :) infact, Would be glad if you throw some light on that.. how exactly did the climax make it worse?
Well-written review, particularly for the way you incorporated a plot device into your writing style.. (sober vrs drunk)... Kudos! ;)
There are a lot of things I want to say, but the thoughts are so muddled.. just like the movie itself.
When I saw Shabana Azmi joining the dancers in the end, it was so against the character and the tone of the movie. I know its a very trivial aspect.. but still, couldn't the makers see how it didn't make ANY sense? at all?!!!
My friend and I took the risk.. went all the way to Mulund from Vashi (guessing you are familiar enough with Mumbai).. and it paid off! hope you'll be among the first ones to buy the DVD.. :)
"With Sonakshi Sinha as lead lady, we can forget all about entertainment in the form of dance because the woman has a knack of juicing the grace out of dance."
That was quite a strong comment :P or may be it sounds so only because I seem to enjoy her lack of imhibitions for those crazy moves which clearly belong to the 80s ;)) can't think of another leading lady today who dances with such abandon (except for Anushka, maybe)
I personally felt this film is trying too hard to bank on the 'Punjabi' flavour, so well established by Khosla Ka Ghosla & Vicky Donor among others. Also, the plotline seems too wafer-thin - wonder how will they carry an entire film on its premise.
Rajeev Masand calls the film 'time-pass entertainment' (though I agree, accompanied by a 2 star rating), and yet its tagged as a 'thumbs down' wala review. Any comments?
When did you write this one? :O :O I can't even find the date anywhere... A Fabulous write-up anyways... speaks about several of my concerns while watching a movie.. in great detail. I really look forward to articles like this as well, besides the reviews :) do try to come up with more of these.. cheers!
I knowwwwww.... now even I am getting that feeling :P (about 'Failure' being a strong word). But as I was walking out, "This has not succeeded" was all I could think. So there!
:D For the moment, I am finding some solace in Raja Sen's review which more-or-less mirrors how I felt about 'Barfi'.. But yea, the final stretch was a huge huge let-down for me. I never expected it to take the usual "who-will-he-end-up-with" route. Also bothering was the unnecessary mystery angle Basu tried to incorporate.
I do not have any special reason to hope for anything different than the usual Bhandarkar template... but being a Bebo fan, I hope she makes the most of it (though am sure comparisons with 'Fashion' and Priyanka will be inevitable, and Bebo will turn up at the losing end :P)
And How can i forget to mention the title track (Mohit Chauhan version, ofcourse)
Like the trailer, the song too sounded a little too "bubbly". But then I heard the 2nd antara... :-| Hands down, one of the BESTEST composed, written & sung this year. The tragic-comic mood it creates... its just beyond words.
I've had my share of apprehensions about the movie ever since its trailer came out. Initially, it looked "too cheery" or feel-good sort (what with Ranbir reprising his Chaplinesque tramp-like persona)
Besides, it seemed as if Basu is now trying to do everything at once - A deaf-mute character in lead, an autistic in 2nd lead, period-setting (an attempt to gain weight?). I mean, it all seemed too gimmicky.
But the song promos have changed my opinion for good. at the very least, it seems to deliver a very original story (Don't know why, 'Forrest Gump' came to my mind :O)
Looking particularly forward to how Ileana performs. Have been a HUGE fan of her girl-next-door personality, ever since I watched Pokiri :D :D
This is one of the harshest reviews this movie has reviewed. Not that I am complaining :P I think the film dabbles into too many genres and sub-genres without ever grip on its tone. Even the Parsi ambience ended up being used just for cheap laughs.
So great to see a review up so early :) I am somewhat apprehensive about the climax... but other, I think Anurag Kashyap decided to have all the fun he could... in true QT style!!
Particularly agreed with this one - "And for that I love it =E2=80=93 making me enjoy something I don't understand." :)
I understand.. have been a victim of these show cancellations in the past, but managed to catch a morning show on Saturday. Do try to watch it on DVD. Like Rajeev Masand stated, "its one movie that will make to every list at year-end, of movies that you SHOULD have watched but couldn't"
Well, I am glad atleast someone shares my sentiments about the 'Kya Kool Hain Hum' watching experience. It seemed I was the only one so appalled by it, coz everyone else around me (barring Critics ofcourse :P :P) found all of it very funny and all.

I am glad you too noticed the "overdose" of system thing :P
Thats Harsh!

Very rarely do you give a "switch channels if its on cable" rating to a movie thats not OTT Comedy-types *now goes ahead to read the review*
Fabulous last paragraph!!

Meetu: The end spoilt it for you? Now this is a first.
In the 3rd line from bottom, it should be "bold move", i think...

I am quite a fan of the soundtrack, though :) what an year Trivedi has had!

I am a little curious, so asking :

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting... :-|

Bahut intezaar karaa rahe ho aap :P

A failure. Noble, Interesting, very very Cinematic... and yet a failure.
Over to you... :)
Was i wrong in expecting a far more detailed review? even though the film itself is very much light in nature...
I do not have any special reason to hope for anything different than the usual Bhandarkar template... but being a Bebo fan, I hope she makes the most of it (though am sure comparisons with 'Fashion' and Priyanka will be inevitable, and Bebo will turn up at the losing end :P)
"Cheerful kind of tragedy" is a nice way to put that :) Can you recall any other Hindi films that had this quality?
Hahahaha...
And How can i forget to mention the title track (Mohit Chauhan version, ofcourse)

"Seeing a woman in a Hindi film do cat-like moves is entertaining, alright" - That was one of the major 'plus' sequences for me :P
@Meetu: heyyyyy... I saw it last nite myself :D
I meant I haven't yet made up my mind about the climax.. (it somewhat left me underwhelmed)
*otherwise

@Meetu Dont tell me you haven't seen Gattu :-| was really looking forward to a review from you
