Thumbs up, by Subhash K Jha, Bolly Spice : ...If only the rest of the film also displayed a similar self-directed humour instead of constantly taking itself seriously, Marjaavan would be more than just a hyper-strung wickedly kinetic homage to an era when Bachchan was king and cinema was his playground.... full review

Thumbs up, Bollywood Hungama : ...Music is soulful and peppy. 'Tum Hi Aana' is like the theme song and well utilized. 'Thodi Jagah' is touching. 'Kinna Sona' is nothing great. 'Ek Toh Kum Zindagani' is smoking hot and 'Haiya Ho' is in the same zone. Sanjoy Chowdhury's background score adds to the massy element, especially in Sidharth’s fight scenes.... full review

Thumbs up, by Joginder Tuteja, Planet Bollywood : ...As for the film, it may not be convincing as whole because a storytelling like this requires suspension of disbelief. However when you realise that Marjaavaan was always meant to be designed as an over the top affair, you go with the flow and watch the movie in a kind of mindset that was required for a stage and set up like this.... full review

So-So, by Devesh Sharma, Filmfare : ...If Marjaavaan is an attempt to turn Sidharth Malhotra into a bonafide massy action star then it fails to do so on all counts. The all-pumped-up actor gamely ploughs on, fists and kicks flying, mouthing punch dialogue. But even Arnie, Sly or Rajini couldn't have saved this all-over-the-place affair...... full review

So-So, by Vishal Verma, Glamsham.com : ...MARJAAVAAN has nothing to die for in its plotline and attitude to pay tribute to the escapist action packed masala’s since 70’s. but, it has certainly something to go for the diehard follower of Bollywood escapist action masala lovers who just love such happenings on screen and cannot live without it. An extra for the flashy reminder of Mr. Bachchan as Sikander and Sunny Paaji as Karan from JEET.... full review

So-So, by Gautam Batra, koimoi : ...Apart from these scenes, the whole second half dips when it had to build upon the drama. The whole revenge plot doesn’t make any sense because the drama hasn’t been established properly.... full review

So-So, by Gaurang Chauhan, Times Now : ...Talking about the music, Tum Hi Aana is a chartbuster. This soundtrack of Marjaavaan should serve as an example for the makers to do away from remixes as the original Tum Hi Aana is a hit and the USP of the film while all other remixes and revisited songs be it Kinna Sona, Haiya Ho or Ek Toh Kum Zindagani fail.... full review

So-So, by Ronak Kotecha, Times of India : ...Marjaavaan attempts to check all the boxes for an emotional action rollercoaster, but its dated execution doesn’t quite make the kill.... full review

Thumbs down, by Anna MM Vertticad, annavetticadgoes2themovies : ...Maybe the line Raghu should have delivered is this: “Yeh film dekhega toh mar jayega tu, dobaara koi bhi film dekhne se darr jayega tu.”... full review

Thumbs down, by Russel D'silva, Bollywood Life : ...I highly recommend Marjaavaan to all filmmaking students, especially those with a keen interest in hardcore commercial cinema. It's a blueprint in everything not to do while making such films. I'm going with 1.5 stars (solely for those handful of action scenes and dialoguebaazi).... full review

Thumbs down, by SUPARNA SHARMA, Deccan Chronicle : ...The film’s climax is dull because in Indian films people don’t like to just kill their main enemy. They like to sit down for some baat-cheet, unload mann ki baat and generally talk about life and stuff going on around us. It just goes on and on, much like the film’s dialogue.... full review

Thumbs down, by Deepa Gahlot, Deepa Gahlot : ...You can predict that if a film has a Raavan-burning Dussehra celebration in the beginning, it will have one in the climax. Everything about this film is laughably bad; the only one who is not a complete washout is Riteish Deshmukh, though even he could have done without a Marjaavaan on his filmography. Those involved with the making of this film used the word “massy,” in interviews, but when the meaning of the word changed, they either didn’t get the memo, or woke up just to watch the Housefull type of movies.... full review

Thumbs down, by Rahul Desai, Film Companion : ...This isn’t his voice; this isn’t a voice at all. This is an algorithm in search of the highest bidder. And hence, the final result is the same. Marjaavaan is just another brick in the unbreakable box-office wall. And a tragic reminder that we, as a nation, are the movies we watch.... full review

Thumbs down, by Madhuri V, Filmi Beat : ...The songs are the only saving grace of this Sidharth Malhotra-Tara Sutaria starrer. 'Tum Hi Aana' and 'Thodi Jagah' are melodious to the ears and register on your lips.... full review

Thumbs down, by Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Gulf News : ...Watch this at your own risk.... full review

Thumbs down, by Jyoti Sharma Bawa, Hindustan Times : ...The dialogues are perhaps the only ‘original’ aspect of the film; while everything else -- from the screenplay to the songs, are a retread. Riteish as the dwarf don seems to be in on the joke. While Sidharth is earnest even with ketchup-y blood covering most of his face, and Tara refusing to ham it up, Riteish is the only one who seems to know the sort of schlock he is a part of. And after the over 2-hour long viewing, so do we.... full review

Thumbs down, by Ankur Pathak, Huffington Post : ...That she’s from Kashmir and thinks the violence of the valley can be compared to Mumbai’s mafia and how it’s ruining the lives of the city’s youth is the kind of politics you expect from someone who has Satyamev Jayte in his directing credits.... full review

Thumbs down, by Nairita Mukherjee, india today : ...Marjaavaan has nothing we can take away, except a fleeting obsession we spotted in Vishnu when he realised his sworn enemy, Raghu, has no interest in continuing the enmity, despite several provocations. At that moment, Vishnu’s life was left purpose-less, for what do you do when your opponent drops his weapon and walks away? If only the makers had spent more time on developing this speck of story, rather than those elaborate, yet ineffective song-and-dance sequences.... full review

Thumbs down, India TV : ...The fact that Sidharth and Tara as Raghu and Zoya share near-zero chemistry does not really help matters either.... full review

Thumbs down, by R.M. Vijayakar, India West : ...Riteish Deshmukh impresses and hams in turns, while Rakul has nothing much to do. Tara Sutaria makes a mark and shows that she was not given a fair deal in her debut “Student Of The Year 2” earlier this year. Shaad Randhawa is passable, as is Nassar. The rest do not have much to do, though Uday Nene as Raghu’s plump friend impresses.... full review

Thumbs down, by Ektaa Malik/, indian express : ...The director tries to weave in current issues like communalism and the Kashmir problem, but nothing sticks.... full review

Thumbs down, by Ambika Sachin, Khaleej Times : ...'Marjaavan' falls several shades short of a proper Bollywood masala entertainer that it aspires to in spite of having all the ingredients for it. The weak and cliched plotline along with heavy-duty dialogues that should have impressed but end up sounding hollow is only part of the problem.... full review

Thumbs down, by Kamaal R Khan, Khaleej Times : ...Watching 'Marjaavaan' for 2 hours and 30 minutes is a torture as the film lacks emotion, action and the scenes are not co-related. The plot and scenes are just put together. Not worth a watch.... full review

Thumbs down, by Mayank Shekhar, MiD DAY : ...Don't know how well this film will do with the 'masses' it's intended for. The audiences get what it deserves anyway.... full review

Thumbs down, by Pankhurie Mulasi, Movie Talkies : ...Cinematography is poor, background score is very loud and screenplay is lousy. Milap Zaveri tried to make a masala entertainer but he went overboard with the masala and forgot to add entertainment. Watch this film only if you like watching 80s ka drama.... full review

Thumbs down, by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror : ...In this film, someone refers to a “dedh kilo ka dimaag” which is supposedly the most fierce weapon of all. If only it had been utilised, we wouldn’t have had to succumb to this crusade against better sense.... full review

Thumbs down, by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV : ...Say yes to Marjaavaan at your own peril. The film is so short of new ideas that at least a couple of its songs are rehashes. One of them has Nora Fatehi gyrating to it with all the enthusiasm in the world. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that too many people will be queuing up to pay her - and the unabashed retreading of tired tropes that this film proffers - back in kind.... full review

Thumbs down, by Rohit Vats, News18.com : ...Don’t put your life at risk for just one film. Who knows if it’s named Marjaavaan on purpose!... full review

Thumbs down, by Vaibhavi V Risbood, Pinkvilla : ...Marjaavaan leaves audiences wondering if the investment in starcast was to overshadow the lack of an intuitive and engaging script. There are many things which went south with the script, and you end up wondering which one was the worst?... full review

Thumbs down, by Sukanya Verma, Rediff : ...Nothing can salvage the Marjaavaan mess -- not religious symbols tattooed on Malhotra's knuckles, the two-and-a-half hours of hysterically hamming people, the boisterous background score, the stale imagination, the burly giants, the phony rain, the cheap blood, the microwave romance, the laboured hostility, the incessant babbling on mohabbat and ibadat, not Arjit Singh yowling in a loop.... full review

Thumbs down, by UDITA JHUNJHUNWALA, Scroll.in : ...The action scenes are slick and Zaveri remains loyal to the milieu and garnished speeches. It might have worked too, had the story had some heft, some surprises and if one could feel the complexities of the relationships between these flawed characters who remain nothing more than billboard-sized cardboard cutouts.... full review

Thumbs down, by Namrata Joshi, The Hindu : ...Marjaavaan is loud, overcooked and overdone. Turgid and tedious it just passes you by, without you caring for anyone or anything on the big screen.... full review
