The Body - Preview

Sure, the set-up in the trailer of this thriller and supposedly murder mystery points to the husband. But it is done so overtly that any viewer would suspect that it is to divert our attention from someone else. Even the “Is she even dead?” bit seems to be a ploy to distract.

Just when you start finding the trailer interesting, you also realise they are giving way too much away in the trailer itself. It might just be a good thing if the makers intentionally want the audience to walk into the theater extra-alert. It seems like the thrills have all been taken up in the trailer itself. Challenge taken, hoping that it was an intentional one.

The Body releases on 13 December 2019.

So-So, by Russel D'silva, Bollywood Life : ...The Body had the potential to be a crackling thriller in its own right, but loses steam midway to land several rungs below what it was aiming for. It could still make for a mildly engaging one-time watch though for Emraan Hashmi and Rishi Kapoor fans. I'm going with 2.5 out of 5 stars.... full review

So-So, by Monika Rawal Kukreja, Hindustan Times : ...By the time you reach climax, you have made your own deductions and the twist makes you go ‘wow’ and ‘blah’ at the same time. The Body is mediocre at best, watch it if you truly like thrillers but don’t expect it to make it to your top 5 list.... full review

So-So, by ANISH MOHANTY, Planet Bollywood : ...‘The Body’ delivers enough chills to keep you invested in its narrative. As somebody who had not seen the original, I quite enjoyed the film. The film has its share of flaws but is a fairly entertaining fare nonetheless.... full review

So-So, by Moumita Bhattacharjee, Rediff : ...The film starts well with a fantastic post-interval twist, but it meanders for the most part. A thriller needs to be edgy or it will lose its grip and that holds true for The Body. The film scores only because of Rishi Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and Sobhita Dhulipala's performances and of course, the story.... full review

So-So, by Dey Purkayastha, Times of India : ...Just like all other Emraan Hashmi films, the music of this movie – mostly love ballads – does not disappoint and the catchy numbers are soothing to the ears.... full review

Thumbs down, by Bobby Sing, Bobby Talks Cinema.com : ...In all, if possible, watch the Spanish film THE BODY with English subtitles searching it on the net. And in case you are not interested, then skip watching THE BODY in Hindi too and do yourself a favour. Because who knows tomorrow you might be interested in watching the original and then your experience of watching something worth will not get ruined.... full review

Thumbs down, by Subhash K Jha, Bolly Spice : ...Without a doubt The Body is the worst film of Rishi Kapoor’s career. And I include such classics of fetid kitsch from his career as Rangeela Ratan, Naya Daur, Aan Aur Shaan,Naseeb Apna Apna and Sheshnag. Serving as an impertinent and unwanted counterpart to the recent Knives Out, The Body is simply one of the most asinine whodunits I have ever seen.... full review

Thumbs down, Bollywood Hungama : ...On the whole, THE BODY is a dry and boring thriller. At the box office, it will turn out to be a flop.... full review

Thumbs down, by Prathyush Parasuramanhyush, Film Companion : ...At the end of the film, it’s a clear morning. The resolution, or the twist, is revealed, and justice (however extrajudicial – what is with our movies glorifying such acts?) is meted out. Underwhelmed I walked out. The couples looked happy. Well, at least someone had a satisfying time at the movies.... full review

Thumbs down, by Analita Seth, Filmfare : ...What could have been a short film for a digital platform has unnecessarily been stretched as a feature. Weak writing, flawed editing and a disinterested cast doesn't help its prospects...... full review

Thumbs down, by T J Reddy, fullhyd.com : ...And once those credits rolled, we left the cinema disappointed. In the instance, we chose to blame our disappointments on the filmmakers. Through the course of this review, however, we have come to realize that we set our expectations based on the artists' previous works. Maybe we were as responsible for our disappointment as they are.... full review

Thumbs down, by Vishal Verma, Glamsham.com : ...THE BODY this body is mysteriously stolen from its thrilling heartbeats and the soul goes missing and missing and missing.... full review

Thumbs down, by Shubhra Gupta, indian express : ...It’s almost as if the cast was at rehearsal, and the cameras started rolling and kept going. And of course, a Bollywood remake has to have a few songs. One has lyrics which go like this: Main jaanta hoon ki teri naa mein chhupi hui si haan hai.... full review

Thumbs down, by Umesh Punwani, koimoi : ...All said and done, The Body is a dull mysterious thriller in which the mystery unfolds when you care the least about it. It plays with your mind in a bad way to fill it with cluttered chaos.... full review

Thumbs down, by Johnson Thomas, MiD DAY : ...The incompetent performances lay the narrative bare and what could have been a hundred possibilities narrows down to just one. The twists and turns seem belabored and the slack pacing and uneven tempo fails to drum up tension. Paulo's film was rather cerebral, Joseph's remake is mostly incidental. There's no climate of suspense or thrill in the mystery here.... full review

Thumbs down, by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror : ...Creaky doors, “jazbaati” investigators and toxins made of “Taiwan cobra”, Jeethu Joseph’s The Body seems determined to to tick the tropes. If only a warm body was assigned to review this story before it went on floors, it would’ve been nipped in the bud.... full review

Thumbs down, by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV : ...In one scene, the hero calls a girl who waits tables at the nightclub that he frequented with his wife. He enquires about Maya's mobile phone. She is dead, she may be alive, it is complicated, he blabbers. The girl at the other end of the line is understandably flummoxed. So are we! The Body is best left alone.... full review
