Has the power to numb your brain to inane action, to bore you with same ol’ action, to tire you with relentless action.
Read moreDo the film-makers not even realise they are normalising huge no-nos? You see it all in Baaghi 3—domestic violence, gawking, men asked not to cry, girl and boy not even seeing each other before getting married, police lawlessness, talking about wiping nations off to save one’s beloved. When a film so flippant about such social evils advocates brotherhood across boundaries and religions, that feels like lip-service. You even accept with a shaking head when the hero’s sidekicks—his girlfriend and his brother—play impossibly dumb. The action too seems no different from what we have seen in other Tiger Shroff films.
The blasts compete with the characters to be loud.
I am exhausted watching Tiger Shroff’s choreographed actions sequences. As well as they might be executed by him, we have seen all of this thrice in this franchise itself, and at least three more times outside of it. How can he not be tired of doing it all over again?
In some sense, maybe the makers did realise that he is getting repetitive because they have attempted to give him a few of those “emotional” scenes. He becomes as powerful with emotions as he is when he is beating up villains, making the entire act way over-the-top.
I am not sure yet, whether he can be blamed for that last bit because everyone in Baaghi 3 is over-acting. Shraddha Kapoor leads the gang in hamming it up with what is supposed to be a comical character trait—using regular words as profanity. It is plain painful. Did she not realise how ridiculous she is made to look in the name of being badass. Similarly, Riteish Deshmukh, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma carry quirks, spoonerism, riddles and name-puns respectively, that drop Baaghi 3 in the almost slapstick category.
In terms of story, it is already in that category though—the mindless, keep-your-brain-home category. So, complaining about turn-arounds by characters and pointing out loopholes is highlighting my own idiocy. The story is just padding around all the action, as we have come to expect in action films now. I am also convinced the makers knew that the emotional tugs were only fillers between two action scenes.
Unfortunately, even the action is predictable. If you have watched the film, tell me you didn’t see what coming in the stacked-car scene. Action scenes had the potential to get interesting if the villain’s crew is some match for the lone hero. Instead, they are profoundly bad with their aim—even tankers pointing straight at the hero, miss their mark!
So numbingly silly are the events in the film that not only words, you are at a loss for thoughts too. The blasts compete with the characters to be loud. We should have known what to expect from a film that chose Tohfa’s ‘ek aankh maaru...’ to remake, of all the songs in the 80s.
How can Tiger Shroff not be tired of doing it all over again?
You might wonder why the film is named Baaghi because Tiger Shroff’s character is not really a rebel. He is encouraged by his father, needed by his brother, admired by his lover to be who he is. You are only likely to be further puzzled because the film’s last scene goes out of its way to explain why it shouldn’t have been called Baaghi.

Thumbs up, Bollywood Hungama : ...On the whole, BAAGHI 3 has a terrific combination of Tiger Shroff’s powerful performance, superlative action and stunning visuals. At the box office, it will surely appeal to its target audience - the Tiger Shroff fans and the audience in smaller town and cities who relish action entertainers.... full review
So-So, by Deepa Gahlot, A Fine Imbalance : ...The Baaghi 3 franchise can probably go on as long as Tiger Shroff remains fast and furious, and there are unexplored locations in which to shoot… and till the audience demands better films.... full review
So-So, by Baradwaj Rangan, Blogical Conclusion, The New Sunday Express : ...Baaghi 3 has some solid cheesy-good stretches — a bit involving Jaideep Ahlawat and a landmine, or just the sight of Vijay Varma in the kind of comic role Amjad Khan played after he got tired of playing villains. They’re both terrific. This is range. But the rest of Baaghi 3 is content to remain at a generic, hmm…not bad level. The action set-ups are spectacular.... full review
So-So, by Subhash K Jha, Bolly Spice : ...The terrorist –villains are played by assorted actors of unquestionable capability saddled with the job of making global terrorism look like a formula for thrills. Let’s just wait for the day Bollywood decides to replace terrorism with caronavirus as Villain No.1. Baaghi 4, perhaps?... full review
So-So, by Devesh Sharma, Filmfare : ...But ultimately it’s Tiger Shroff’s show all the way. He slices and dices through the opposition with the finesse of a ballet dancer. He seriously needs better scripts sometimes soon to do better justice to his enormous talent...... full review
So-So, by Madhuri V, Filmi Beat : ...As the end credits roll, the lead pair set their hair loose on 'Dus Bahane 2.0' on the big screen. Except for Tiger Shroff's jaw-dropping action avatar, Baaghi 3 barely gives you any reason to 'get ready' for this film.... full review
So-So, by Shalu Singh, India TV : ...There is a new genre in Indian cinema called "leave-your-brains-at-home action", courtesy a few recent films. And 'Baaghi 3' seems to be its latest offering. RIP logic. Watch 'Baaghi 3' for some inexplicable action, daring stunts, and only if you are a die-hard Tiger Shroff fan.... full review
So-So, by Shubhra Gupta, indian express : ...These bits are not as gung-ho as they would have been in the masala era of the 70s and 80s, but I will take this pallid stab — any thing to hold on to in these dark days — and wave back at our baaghi while doing so.... full review

So-So, by Umesh Punwani, koimoi : ...All said and done, Baaghi 3 is high on action and low on everything else. It starts scattering from the word go and there’s nothing left till the climax apart from some good moves by Tiger Shroff.... full review
So-So, by Rajeev Masand, News18.com : ...Like the tattered shirt that barely hangs off his ripped frame, Baaghi 3 hangs by a thread off its leading man’s strong shoulders. Tiger is the only reason the film isn’t completely unwatchable. I’m going with a generous two out of five; both stars strictly for the cub who deserves the kind of material that’ll let him grow into the lion he’s clearly poised to be.... full review

So-So, by Vinayak Chakravorty, Sify Movies : ..."Baaghi 3" tries working as an old-school action fest and falters. The film was never meant to be original fare. This is a Tiger Shroff showcase strictly for his fans, a technically glossy package meant to cash in on his machismo and dancing groove.... full review
So-So, by Ronak Kotecha, Times of India : ...There are ample acrobatics on display, slo-mo shots, deafening explosions and lethal punches in ‘Baaghi 3’. But none of it can rise beyond a weak script that doesn’t go for the kill. Knock yourself out only if you’re a diehard Tiger Shroff fan.... full review
Thumbs down, by Russel D'silva, Bollywood Life : ...Baaghi 3 is similar to Rambo 2 and 3 in terms of the one-man-army concept and resemble Tiger Zinda Hai and War (which had Tiger Shroff, too) in terms of Bollywood scale and ambition. Sadly it neither holds a candle to any other aspect of those films nor does it comprehend that the swag and star-power of your leading man alone can't compensate for the lack of thrill or adrenaline in an action movie. Barring a couple of exciting moments, the movie is nothing more than a glossy shell with nothing within it. I'm going with 1.5 out of 5 stars.... full review
Thumbs down, by Angel Rani, Deccan Herald : ...Now, Tiger Shroff is never out of sync on the dance floor or the battlefield. But a franchise of this size needs some smart story-telling too.... full review
Thumbs down, by Rahul Desai, Film Companion : ...From anywhere, at any time. Vikram could have done this the moment he was kidnapped, and saved us all the trouble of watching an hour of counterfeit Syrian warfare. But I’m reluctant to criticize Riteish Deshmukh (who I liked before the extra vowel) because Ronnie might just slide in through my window and hit me senseless. Or worse, he might hit me with Baaghi 4.... full review

Thumbs down, by Kritika Deval, fullhyd.com : ...Since we like to be honest with you guys, we'll tell you that some people laughed pretty hard at some of the scenes that made us want to stab ourselves in the ears. Maybe this movie is like that one blue/black or gold/white dress that was basically the whole internet a few years ago, and once you see it as funny rather than cringe you can't unsee it. So we'll invite you to take your chances, but preferably at home and with some sort of intoxicant at hand.... full review
Thumbs down, by Vishal Verma, Glamsham.com : ...BAAGHI 3 shares its shares its DNA from the previous franchise and they where money spinners but this is the weakest bet. Things over here are innocently juvenile in the name of an action packed thriller suited for those who still find pleasure in those chor police, ram leela kind of plays/games we play when we are in our primary schools. The next sequel of BAAGHI will now have to come up with something pretty special if it hopes to fly like Tiger’s flips to kick past this miserable entry.... full review
Thumbs down, by Jyoti Sharma Bawa, Hindustan Times : ...Perhaps realizing the limitations of their film, actors offer you extra -- everybody seems to be happily hamming it up. Tiger is limited in emotional scenes, Shraddha Kapoor has little to do other than being perky before interval and tanned after it, Ritiesh’s namby-pamby act gets repetitive, and Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat are happy sleep-walking through their roles. There are a mind-numbing 140 minutes of this; thankfully Tiger is kicking and punching during most of it.... full review
Thumbs down, by Nairita Mukherjee, india today : ...It is rather difficult to rate a film like Baaghi 3. Like the bullets the goons fire at our quintessential Bollywood hero, that always escape our leading man, our words and the general metric system escape us. We're still going to try.... full review
Thumbs down, by Uday Bhatia, Live Mint : ...As Shroff Ramboed his way to his brother, I wondered if even director Ahmed Khan knew why his film was unfolding in Syria. There isn’t a single scene that’s politically or culturally specific; Tiger could just as well be taking out tanks and helicopters in Lebanon, or Iraq, or Afghanistan. Someone should make Khan watch Last Men in Aleppo, City of Ghosts, The White Helmets, For Sama, devastating non-fiction films out of Syria, which show a nation on the verge of being wiped off the map.... full review
Thumbs down, by Uma Ramasubramanian, MiD DAY : ...Ahmed Khan has employed formulaic trinkets — good songs, and larger-than-life action — to make this 150-minute film a commercial entertainer.... full review
Thumbs down, by Vinamra Mathur, MiD DAY : ...It doesn't matter how Baaghi 3 is received, it will go bonkers at the box-office and that will only pave way for Baaghi 4, 5, and 6. This could be the longest-running franchise of Hindi Cinema, but as a fan of this genre and especially the first Baaghi, I'm hoping to see something refreshing in the next film. Because sometimes, not only the story, the stunts need reinvention too!... full review
Thumbs down, by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror : ...Dialogue by Farhad Samji seems to have plunged to a new low. From stringing lines that rhyme, with words such as “hadd” and “sarhadd”, he even packs a few double meaning innuendos. For instance, “Uthta nahin hain toh karte kyun ,” asks Vikram, while helping his brother, during a bench press set.... full review
Thumbs down, by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV : ...Tiger Shroff does have broad shoulders. But they aren't broad enough to enhance the weight of a film as unashamedly flimsy as Baaghi 3. It is worse than a mere misfire. It is a damp squib.... full review
Thumbs down, by Nikita Roy, Pinkvilla : ...All in all, it is a typical popcorn entertainer and tried to have a bit of everything-action, drama, music, and romance. If you are an action buff and Tiger fan then you should book the tickets this weekend while those who don't enjoy testosterone-filled ride can give a miss.... full review
Thumbs down, by Sukanya Verma, Rediff : ...What I really laughed loud at is gun-toting Syrian police running around like puppets and taking orders from Tiger and Shraddha while they single-handedly take down global terrorism. Thumbs down, by Nandini Ramnath, Scroll.in : ...Ronnie will probably get a new profession and a new lover in the inevitable fourth movie, and maybe a smart story and screenplay will come along too.... full review
Thumbs down, by Namrata Joshi, The Hindu : ...Beyond this Tiger voyeurism, there is little else to the film. Seasoned actors like Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma are made to ham, Shraddha Kapoor is more of a comic relief in the name of being the leading lady and Riteish Deshmukh appears to keep eating dahi for good luck. There is a phrase in Hindi: dimaag ka dahi, the curdling of brain. That’s what the film does to your mind, leaves you all woolly-headed.... full review
Thumbs down, by Priyanka Roy, The Telegraph : ...Baaghi 3 ends with Tiger and Shraddha dancing to a headache-inducing version of Dus bahane, coupled with the ominous promise of ‘Baaghi 4’.
