Interesting writeup there.. I agree about the faith in writers bit.. Wonder why you are surprised about kalki's inclusion though.. She is good enough..
B H Harsh, I guess I think of our film fraternity in terms of families or sub-fraternities, and both Katrina and Kalki seem like they are from different ones.
Eagerly awaiting this one
http://eatpraylovemovies.blogspot.com/2011/07/zindagi-na-milegi-dobara-run-up.html
Farhan has written dialogues only once. For DCH and he was pretty good there. why should you not like his writing? and it wud be rude to judge the dialogues as lame already. i will just say that they are not the best.:) Farhan as an entertainer surely has shown great capabilities. From direction to acting to singing, he's been good with everything. looking forward for ZNMD.
@Apoorv i was referring to the dialogue that are in the promos. They seemed pretty blah in the promo, but in the film it all works :D So all good!
And Mohit, Vishal and Harsh, wherever you guys are! This notepad is dedicated to you! I don't know you all, but if you guys didnt read it regularly, I wouldn't have written it. And while writing it wouldn't have realised how much I enjoy writing it and what purpose it serves. :D
Timely review, thanks for watching this one first day, first show, first row
Your review says that your'e extremely pleased and it's really a commendable effort. Long time i am hearing such a glorifying review. I knew that it would be a worth watching but i was reluctant because of the assemble cast which include some of the people i hate. But now i think your review has raised my zeal to check it out for sure.
Neetish not first row, i just cannot do that. :D
guddu, yeah it was a good 2.5 hours
I'm really surprised (hope it'd be a pleasant one) that this one got a positive review from you; I was expecting exactly the opposite. If it's not a big-time spoiler, can you let me know whether or not it's inspired from The Hangover? I've stopped following the news w.r.t. films or otherwise lately for reasons of my own, but read the following in Taran Adarsh's review (can't help following yours, TOI's and Taran's reviews as long as I'm well enough and have access to Internet):
"Is it similar to HANGOVER? Or is it a present-day adaptation of Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut DIL CHAHTA HAI?"
While he has specified about its comparison to DCH, he's (whether or not intentionally) not done so w.r.t. The Hangover. Or is it something one can't tell for sure? Like, after watching Shagird, I can clearly relate it to Training Day in parts. And so I wonder if Tigmanshu is telling the truth when he says that it's not lifted from Training Day. Hell, it's a game of words here. He's said that he's not "lifted" the movie, but I haven't found him saying that it's "inspired" from it. And there certainly is a difference between the two words. No wonder, I'm lost in confusion.
Hi meetu,
Loved your line"None unless you count throwing of tomatoes".Very witty.
@lost in confusion no-no, not at all like hangover (i hated it, if that helps you arrive at a conclusion)
@shashank thank you! ;)
@meetu: Thanks for the info. It'd surely help, why won't it?
I knew this one would get a good rating from you because
- You did not give great ratings to Shor in the City, Shaitan and Delhi Belly
Here is my take on it:
The movie is an excellent setup for Spain Tourism promotion
If you love to see guys, this movie is again, brilliant!
Katrina Kaif looks better than in most movies and I am not a fan of Kalki K.
The Cinematography is the only thing that stood out. Brilliant. But full stop at that.
I could not remember the tunes when I walked out of the theater - contrary to many other recent movies. The story was very simple, nothing in it, quite shallow and painfully slow.
Acting - Abhay Deol and Farhan were genuine. Hrithik has started believing in his great body and that is all he showed in the movie, nothing as an actor, really.
The film started off setting great expectations when they said they were going on a Bachelor's Trip... but there was nothing really in it.
It was a Travel & Living Channel Show, with a few comments on Moral Education.
I think, it is a Must watch on the big screen only for the cinematography. And if you have loved some of the recent movies - Shor in the City, Yeh Saali Zindagi, Shaitan, Delhi Belly... you will find this movie quite painful.
how come someone not like "oye lucky lucky oye" ??? ...and like "zindagi na mile dobara" ? .... and technically it is not the case of "to each its own" !!!
Movie is 3 out of 5. Can be caught on DVD. Certainly no biggie if missed on the big screen.
The guys lacked chemistry. The characters did not seem like old friends meeting up after a long time. They seemed tired. Take a look at the chemistry shown between Delhi belly characters, or going back - DCH characters.
The movie has borrowed a lot of scenes from a lot of movies. Creativity lacked big time. Movie seems like hangover1+2 meets Hitch (ending scene)meets old hogs, etc.
Since this is Wogma I'd rather not say what could have been done to make the movie better, but there are definitely a lot of things.
Hrithik's character unfolded in a weird way. Perhaps better editing was required. Hrithik's acting capabilities have gone down.
Kalki acted better than Katrina (plastic).
In the end Naseerudin shah (mind my spellings) was the one who truly lives up to the title -> zindagi milegi na dobara, do what you love ! :D
I guess movie will appeal more to people into adventure sports or planning for them. To the rest it would seem just another discovery channel broadcast but with Shankar Ehsaan Loy music.
Humor could have been slightly better. Movie could have been a lot better.
3 out of 5.
Saw this movie with two of my guy friends. Really loved every bit of it and the music jelled so well with the rest of the film. It's certainly not for people who don't like 'having fun'. Good cinema doesn't necessarily have to be art-house-ish. Nor does it have to have a strong (social) message all the time. We don't always have feel "sympathy" for a character - sometimes it's nice to think "how I wish I could be there this moment" :)
DCH, although a great movie, did not treat all it's characters equally. Aamir really dominated the scene there. ZNMD treated each of it's characters with equal importance. Kalki rally did her job well and I thought anybody could have done Katrina's role.
Lastly, comparisons to some show(s) on Discovery / Travel and Living seem very unjustified. When we saw and appreciated 'Black', we never said "Oh, I think the people at this school for blind had to put in much more effort than Rani did. Big Deal !!".
@Aditya: I loved the all the neo noir u liked ...tho mabe less of shor.. and yet i loved this one...
@Aditya I don't see what one film has to do with another. They are all entirely independent of each other (and please note, that I liked Delhi Belly, and I didn't hate the others you have mentioned. On the same note, it's very interesting that you haven't brought up the other films I have liked and didn't like. I'm sure with the range of films that I have liked you will find some that you liked to...Gulaal? Manorama six feet under? Tere bin laden? Udaan? Stanley ka dabba?
Also, you agree that cinematography is brilliant. But somehow, it still should have made an effort to make Spain look less beautiful?
@Vishal What is "to each his own" technically?
@Harpreet thanks for your review! :D
@Anand @Parkisht exactly!!
A feel gud movie fr me.i walked out wid a smile.better than my expectations.
@lost in confusion.
whoevr u r, pretty much clear that u r lost.
inspired by hangovr was delhi belly fr me.the get up of three guys was quite smiliar to that of hangovr.
and abt this movie, simply loved it.dialouges make u dive deep down inside n as i said in previous comment i walked out wid a big smile.

Meetu Dont mind ... but u are most biased movie critic I have seen ... the most biased .. even more biased than Taran Adarsh or even more more biased than those SRk fans tingling down the road.
ZNMD is a joke of movie making, Hrithik Abhay and Farhan all are oxymoronic ... Kalki can stay away and Katrina shall relegate herhelf to saree clad scenes with our tees maar khan. Acting isnt for Her. Hrithik shall seriously make a Krishh or else he is gone !!
ths movie roxxx.......go for it guys
Loved the movie and loved the notepad! Thanks for reviving it.. Helps me revisit the movie :)
btw.. i missed the Hrithik doing the SRK step :|
Meetu,
I did not say that you did not rate the other movies well... but I would rather watch some of the other movies on Big Screen than this.
Spain is beautiful, but there is nothing the producers did to make it look beautiful, nor the actors did something.
The point I am trying to make is that as a movie, there really isn't anything in it
- Acting is mediocre
- Music is mediocre
and - Story is very mediocre as well
And I would agree with one of the comments, this movie is not the case of "To each his own".
Here are my ratings:
Direction: 4
Story: 2
Lead Actors: 2
Character Artists: 2
Dialogues: 2
Screenplay: 4
Music Director: 3
Lyrics: 3
And so, the sum and the averages are low~
Zindagi na milegi dobara is a nice entertaining movie i enjoyed a lot watch this movie in this site:http://www.watch-hindi-movies.com/
@Durgesh i don't think @lost-in-confusion has seen ZNMd. He was asking me, not telling me.
@someone_talked_of10 yay! we agree!!
@Kishore what? come again please. i lost you at "Hrithik Abhay and Farhan all are oxymoronic"
@keyur yep! exaactly!!
@mohit thanks to you for the encouragement. you missed that step? koi nahi...go again!! :P
@aditya oh no-no...are you saying the cinematography and other production values have nothing to do with how beautiful Spain came across? And if it is a job well done, how does it matter which country it promotes?
I am really curious why "this movie is not the case of "To each his own"? why?
Big thumbs up from me. Loved the first half esp. Also loved how carefully the sports have been chosen and how it helps the characters to shed their inhibitions. Eg, how Arjun learns to enjoy the present more after the deep sea dive.
@meetu pleasure's all mine :D
Hi there Meetu
long time. I watched this yesterday and quite enjoyed the movie. Actually it doesn't seem as long as 155 minutes when you sit through it. A few flaws here and there but hey given the quality of the recent movies, those can probably be overlooked. Yeah Spain is beautiful and all but frankly I think this movie is above just cinematography. Those characters would have made a good film even if it were a road trip across India or any other country for that matter. I do agree with one of the comments that there is no chemistry between the 'friends' (and comparing with DCH) but I personally think that's the point the director was trying to make. DCH is a different beast - it was about college/post college friendship so most definitely their chemistry would look better than friends who left college ages ago, meeting after a long time and most importantly their priorities have changed. In a way the film goes through the process of these guys re-discovering their bonding which I thought was pretty evident as the movie progresses.
anyway basically what I am saying is that that movie is very good and well worth a watch.
enjoy
Nirmal
@Durgesh: Sorry for the miscommunication, but as meetu has already clarified I was asking her. Yet, the fact remains that I'm pretty much lost.
@Neetish: Maybe meetu took the title of the movie a bit too literally ;)
And I guess we all are biased in our own way..... if looked upon from a certain viewpoint (by others). I too disagree with quite a lot of meetu's and Taran's ratings, and the latter's reviews really get on my nerves at times, but that's just the heat of the moment. BTW, what's so intolerable here? Can someone help me see it? Wait, don't bother. Hail "To each their own." (If I ain't wrong, meetu mentioned those words of wisdom in one of her recent reviews, which I use more often than not these days around. Sure it's hard to come to terms to that and put it to practice in real life. Unfortunately, much easier said than done. So better start concentrating on it right now, it might take forever to achieve it.)
That's it for now. More preachings ASAP. (TIP: You can save yourself from such holy ramblings by not staying tuned.) Amen.
Before you leave, just wanted to add that everyone has the right to express their opinion and am glad that wogma doesn't delete the ones that are not in agreement with its own. (I can recall that even I told meetu something in the lines of changing "- meetu, a part of the audience" to "- meetu, apart from the audience"!!!) Also appreciate that no one has sought to cussing here. Hope the wogma community continues with this spirit forever and ever. So long. Amen.
@jj i've noticed that each one of us, who has liked the film, has taken something different away from the film. that is such an awesome thing the film has achieved.
@Nirmal yeah long time! glad we agree. I like your point about chemistry. But for me, the cold air between Imran and Arjun was chemistry too.
@lost in confusion lol! your sermons, your tareef and your gaalis (not literally, but disagreement and disappointment) are all welcome here :D
" Hrithik Roshan doing the SRK-arms-spread action in a dance to the word mohabbatein. "which song was that? senorita? didnt notice it :(
The movie was good.. because I didn't hear too much about it before I saw it.. the dialogues were funny even when i heard them the second time..after having seen it in trailer..
the bits about their actual adventures was not as enthralling as I would have like..for instance the underwater part, Actual that scene was better shot in Kites..Wish they had taken more pains in it..
Anyway, its been a long time since i went to a movie for which it was hard to get tickets :) good fun
@meetu: Thanks for specifying that you didn't mean it literally. Or else it would only have encouraged me to express my thoughts so freely and uniquely that the moderators of this site might have felt the need to redefine "overtime" (among others).
Of course, kidding.
@ligne yeah, the SRK-arm-spread was in the Senorita song.
I loved the underwater bit here. It might have to do with what it meant to the characters. Not only the way it was explained later, but what they felt while they were under water.
@lost_in_confusion if only, i didn't know that my kids and a few nephews and nieces weren't reading what's written here :D
@harpreet, you're spot on buddy. Even i feel that there was no chemistry between the characters. Naseeruddin Shah and Farhan are the only guys who i liked in the movie. Abhay acted more like a ghissu(bookworm), Kalki did fair, she didn't have much scope in the movie. Hrithik and Katrina are better not talked about. After coming out of the theater i felt that this movie had so much scope for improvement. Everything was there to be cooked for a great dish but the chef messed up with salt. Had amir khan been the producer of this movie he could have done wonders with his ideas.
@meetu, I am an old fan of your reviews but this time i guess that you've messed up. It felt more like a biased TOI review.
My suggestion to adults over there, smoke some weed and then watch this movie. I can bet that you'll fall in love with the movie. During the sky diving scene, it felt like I am inside the plane and I am about to jump. That feeling was awesome. That deep sea diving scene was just heavenly. And last but not the least, you'll love it when the poetry comes. Those scenes are so well shot...slow, in dim light, no one speaking, just poetry flowing in the background.....every poetry scene is like a journey in itself. Cinematography is just awesome, but not as much as that of Raavan.
I've watched this movie two times. First time I was high, and second time I wasn't. And you know what, I just couldn't enjoy those scenes that much second time. It seemed like every scene is passing too quickly. Even the underwater scene passed so quickly.
@kapil wow! from your first comment I thought you hated the movie, and in your second one it looks like you enjoyed bits and pieces reasonably well. oh well, to each his own in different moods and modes too!
By far one of the best films of the year. It was so real in many ways. Probably, the financial divide was dragged a bit too much. Music was understated and performances crisp, except Hritik.
Hi, here I disagree with some people who said Hrithik copied the arm spread of SRK in Senorita song. The style is completely different than SRK, SRK stand still and bent his wrest to right or left direction and then his two hands start rising from his back. But Hrithik in Senorita song spines his body at least two times and then he spread his hand flexibly. However, if you guys still be stubborn in your view point about this arm spreading part, then I would recommend you to watch Kaho Na Payer Hai again which was released 1 year before Mohabbatei released, where Hrithik spread his arms many a times in the movie with different styles. So can't we say that SRK has copied Hrithik's style of spreading arms?? but I will say no, because both of their style in spreading their arms is very different. While hrithik is flexible is spreading his hands, SRK is not flexible and try to exaggerate his style by putting ridiculous pressure on his wrest to bent it downward and then lifting off his two hands slowly.
@Wild ha ha ha ha ha ha....out of this world, hilarious!
This movie is perfect! No words... 2 thumbs up! It truly deserves all awards! My rating:
