I kept feeling till the end that the stories ought to be connected through something in the story (not just the fact that they were all about bollywood). Something like, Babel?
That link would have been perfect!

But all 4 stories were well portrayed, and the actors did a fantastic job! So did the musicians! However, I feel Amit Trivedi's music is getting repetitive now.

    Hello..
    I think I need to comment again :( :)
I am quite surprised to see the videos coming up on the internet showing the scenes copied exactly from various movies.

In this regard, I think the movie is still wonderful and great for an average Indian audience who do not have access to world cinema.

Now for those of us who have watched Amelie, the Notebook, a few Korean movies and Charlie Chaplin, would definitely be disappointed at the screenplay director's lack of innovation or creativity.

This will certainly pull down the score of screenplay or cinematography for this movie, and maybe even Music.

Lastly, sending this movie to the Oscars is a terrible idea as it will bring down Indian movies' credibility at world stage. People look up to Bollywood, and they will now look down!

Again, for an Indian audience, it is still the best movie of the year!

Oops, I meant to write the following in the second sentence:
Even before I could "cry" for those sad scenes, I would get a smile on my face thanks to the wonderfully interleaved happy scenes.

Oh what a movie! I really loved watching it. Even before I could try for those sad scenes, I would get a smile on my face thanks to the wonderfully interleaved happy scenes. Awesome music too. This is also the first time I have appreciated Priyanka Chopra as an actor!

The movie reminded me so much of Korean movies, Majid Majidi's movies, French movie Amelie, that it almost seemed like an amalgamation of all those movies! Definitely a pride of anyone's DVD shelf!

  • Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi:

I think the review is a bit harsh, since the movie is certainly not as bad as 0.5.

Story is weak, Farah Khan cannot act, but you cannot take anything away from Boman Irani, and the lady who played his mom.

Is this the same documentary that was shown on Discovery Channel a few years ago?

Wondering why they need to show the same thing on a theater screen.

Also I think there is an error in your form...
I rated the movie as "Want to watch", but in the comment I see being published it says "Thumbs Up" :P

Any pointers on the music in the movie - background score / songs?

Curious since you did not rate or mention them~

  • Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara:

    Meetu,

I did not say that you did not rate the other movies well... but I would rather watch some of the other movies on Big Screen than this.

Spain is beautiful, but there is nothing the producers did to make it look beautiful, nor the actors did something.

The point I am trying to make is that as a movie, there really isn't anything in it
    - Acting is mediocre
    - Music is mediocre
and - Story is very mediocre as well

And I would agree with one of the comments, this movie is not the case of "To each his own".

    Here are my ratings:
    Direction: 4
    Story: 2
    Lead Actors: 2
    Character Artists: 2

    Dialogues: 2
    Screenplay: 4
    Music Director: 3
    Lyrics: 3

And so, the sum and the averages are low~

  • Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara:

I knew this one would get a good rating from you because
    - You did not give great ratings to Shor in the City, Shaitan and Delhi Belly

Here is my take on it:
The movie is an excellent setup for Spain Tourism promotion
If you love to see guys, this movie is again, brilliant!
Katrina Kaif looks better than in most movies and I am not a fan of Kalki K.

The Cinematography is the only thing that stood out. Brilliant. But full stop at that.

I could not remember the tunes when I walked out of the theater - contrary to many other recent movies. The story was very simple, nothing in it, quite shallow and painfully slow.

Acting - Abhay Deol and Farhan were genuine. Hrithik has started believing in his great body and that is all he showed in the movie, nothing as an actor, really.

The film started off setting great expectations when they said they were going on a Bachelor's Trip... but there was nothing really in it.

It was a Travel & Living Channel Show, with a few comments on Moral Education.

I think, it is a Must watch on the big screen only for the cinematography. And if you have loved some of the recent movies - Shor in the City, Yeh Saali Zindagi, Shaitan, Delhi Belly... you will find this movie quite painful.

  • Shor In The City:

I am wondering why you did not rate the music / soundtrack of the film. I found it to be amazing and one of the strong points of the film. For me, it was the soundtrack along with all the things that you noted (characters, acting) that made it memorable to watch in a theatre. Even at home, I keep hearing the music again and again, along with Yeh Saali Zindagi's. Saaibo is an excellent composition! The movie also reminded me of Babel.

I take back my words that you rated it incorrectly. I think you rated the different parts correctly, 3/5 or 2/5.. only 2 or 3 out of the 5 viewers will enjoy this movie. I belong to the minority here... :)

I disagree with this review; after a long time I watched an enjoyable Hindi movie and in a filled theater.

  • Khichdi The Movie:

I would disagree with your rating because I belong to the category of people who loved "Khichadi" on television.

Before going to the theatre I expected it to be just another episode, 4 times longer than on TV, and it met my expectations, maybe it exceeded them! I went to watch it in a theatre just because I did not want to watch Robot, nor a Priyanka Chopra movie.

The reason Khichadi on TV got so famous was because the actors did a splendid job in getting into the characters they were playing... "jab Bhagwan akal ke laddoo baat rahe the, tab...bade loggggg bade log"

    Anyway :)

  • Karthik Calling Karthik:

A lot of my friends, infact all of my friends except one, were disappointed with the movie. They thought it was obvious. But like you said, it was not 100% obvious the way it happened!

I would agree with your ratings on almost all aspects, and I think it was a good movie simply made. The song has become an earworm for many :)

However, I do not quite think the actors deserved a good rating. Farhan was better than his acts in 'Lucky (or a movie like that)', and Deepika was just about mediocre. Had there been actors with a little more life, they would have rightly deserved 4 out of 5. So there I think you over-rated them to 4.5... but its your review, and your point of view :)

Overall, it was a pretty decent watch, at least for me in a theater.
