Shaurya - Notepad
Shaurya
quick review:
Shaurya dishes out a strong flavor of anti-fundamentalism with a negligible measure of sermons. That in itself is a rarity. While it might not rise up to the standards of "A few good men", it has its intense moments that work.
This page has additional observations, other than the ones noted in the main review.
Plot Summary
Happy-go-lucky Army Lawyer Major Siddhant Chowdhari (Rahul Bose) finds himself defending Jaaved Khan (Deepak Dobriyal). The supposedly open-and-shut case has more to it than meets the eye.
What Worked
- For a change we knew what actors were thinking by them speaking their mind out loud rather than a voiceover telling us so. (Siddhant's thought about his dad)
- The tribute to Chupke Chupke when Siddhant is talking to Kavya (Minnissha Lamba) over coffee, Shakesperean reference, et al.
- Smoke from the gun mixed with rain - nicely done.
- It was a pretty good decision not to bring Javed Khan's mom back in the end. At least they avoided that bit of melodrama.
What did not
Note: This section simply lists the things that I did not like in this movie. This
is not the overall impression about this movie. Please read the
full review here
- Pray, what was that item number in the pub doing in a movie like this? In fact, this one could have easily done without the songs. I wonder - does it take more courage to have a movie without songs or to have one with songs like these!
- Dubbing was off at various points.
- Uh...did Kavya ever get out of jail?
Nitty-Gritty
This section lists things that I think are not important to the overall impact of the movie. In most cases, it could be explained away by something like, "we noticed the glitch after the scene was shot and there were schedule/budget issues and thus we could not re-shoot it". I like giving the makers the benefit of doubt, but I am amused nevertheless. Hopefully, they will tickle you too.
- Couldn't they get proper dust on the photo hanging on the wall!?

Well I agree. I read the reviews of 'Shaurya' @ indiafm.com known for giving the entire story and climax of the film away so you do not bother to see the movie at all. From what i read its apparent that 'Shaurya' is an indianised version of 'A Few good Men' But wait Rahul bose is no Tom cruise and KK menon is no Jack Nicholson. God knows what have they done to the original masterpiece. Will have to wait and watch.
Just go to watch this movie for KK's performance. The best bollywood performance in last few years.
[...] recommends Shaurya. With a cast of Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose, Jaaved Jaferi and Seema Biswas, it sure sounds [...]
Hi
Thanks for discussing our film SHAURYA. I accept that its styled on the lines of A Few Good Men, but the similarity ends with the styling. The issue tackled here is very different. The movie has some fine performances by Rahul Bose, Deepak Dobriyal and Kay Kay Menon. The dialogues too are different and not cliched.
Also the blogs are written by all the artistes themselves. It is apparent from the blogs, its their own take on Shaurya - Courage. No publicist was involved in the creation/promotion of the blogsite.
Request you to check out the movie, you wont be dissappointed.Any genuine criticism is welcome though.

Hey Rupali! I did catch the movie and enjoyed it. Here's my full review.Well, a lot more than the styling is like A few good men. The major plot points are same. Anyway, it's all okay, since it's done fairly well.
Thanks for clarifying about the blogs. It would be nice to know in what capacity you were involved with the movie.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
would hv never watched it had you not recommended and must say enjoyed the flick.
Hey Mayur & amit, glad you liked it!
I completely disagree. This movie was a joke. They had their facts wrong. Shoddy research. And for whatever Rahul Bose's good points maybe, emulating Tom Cruise isn't one of them. It was plain hilarious watching that march of his, esp. with the aviators on! A lot of technical errors too, but you don't focus on those so I'll skip that.
Oh well, Sumit, I liked it despite its flaws. There were things that were done well, and I liked that. I didn't get the sense that Rahul was trying to emulate Tom. Actually, I felt Kay Kay was emulating Jack Nicholson, but he did a pretty good job.
It will be cool to know the technical flaws too. Always ready to learn ;)
Well the movie is kind of slow and directionless in the first half but I think K K Menon gave a killer performance at the end. One of the best speeches I have ever seen and that given the fact that I dont agree to what was being professed in that speech. personally I think K K menon stole the show
the best performance of the year:
K.K. as usual the BEST
Rahul bose...no words left, best wud be a small word... he is ULTIMATE
It's the best movie of the year
simply have no words how I am feeling
it was my b'day y'day and was not sure whether movie wud be the rite option to celebrate
and at the beginning of movie I realised how fortunate I am to opt for Shaurya
This is what is called HIGH QUALITY CINEMA
must see!!
The movie was not something flawless but for the first time has someone shown the reality of the high handed Indian Army, human rights violation and fake encounters go hand in hand with the Indian Army these days. Yes the movie was indianised because indian cinegoers lack taste in good cinema and just wait for a new song rather than a good movie.... A good effort to potray reality than fake jingoism...
beautifully transformed inspiration , rather a great direction of the theme from the very well written thought of" a few good men"
samar a great job hope to see your great works in near future, rahul and kk were tremendous.....
I watched the film yesterday on one of the channels on t.v
great direction.. lovely lyrics..but above all i was so moved by the dynamic dialogues that i had to log in and search and find the name of the dialogue writer.
Being an independent film maker i understand the importance of back-end support.
Aparna - i would love to see your other works.
on a whole its a gud movie..it tells us tht even today prejudice still exists..
brilliant piece of art.splendid acting by Rahul, Javed, Deepak and above all Kay Kay Sahab! Salute to everybody! Great dialogues
Brilliant and a high profile movie.
Dheere Dheere is a beautiful piece
Respected Mr. Rahul Bose (Actor) & UTV,
I appreciate your lead role in the Hindi rather Bollywood movie “Shaurya” which I saw way back. Yesterday I had an opportunity to watch Hollywood movie “A Few Good Men” on UTV Bindass Movies having Tom Cruise and Deemi Moore. Both the movies are great. Thanks UTV for the same.
Unfortunately I never met a good defence lawyer for my father’s cases and feel yes you were one of the FEW GOOD MEN who saved that solider’s self respect.
But I repeat your approach in the Hindi movie made me more responsible towards our society rather human civilization.
I request UTV to forward my e-mail to Actor Rahul Bose if possible as I do not have his e-mail address and convey my best wishes to him.
Appreciate your reply.

Strange.. am i the only one who feels that the topic was dealt with pretty carelessly ? agreed KK acted great n all... but such a sensitive issue should have been more researched.. and shown a bit more tactfully
I am not passing any judgments here... but things are never so black n white...
I wont say bad movie... but surely an irresponsible one
@Pariksit that's a very interesting point.
But let me tell you a little something: Gone are the days when you simply start a blog and people come flocking by the millions. People need to be able to find you and no, they aren’t going to come looking.
