quick review: Smart lines and slick camerawork turns into tiring witticism and regular big-budget technicalities because it is over-written and over-stylized. The few extra seconds taken to establish a scene with elegance give the crux of the scene away. This keeps this action-thriller from being crisp. Multiple, smart twists are pointless if you are going to chicken out in the climax.

The last scene of Don had made Don 2 a must watch for me. The first shot of the teaser promised that there's no way it will disappoint as far as style is concerned. There is this slight worry about it getting over-stylized, given that it is an out-and-out Shah Rukh Khan the worry only gets stronger.

But, it is easy to keep it in the very back side of my head, because of the involvement of one Mr. Farhan Akhtar. Faith in his writing and directorial capabilities will take me a long way. Whatever doubts I had about his writing capabilities, were put to rest in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. So strong is my belief in Farhan Akhtar writing and intelligence that I feel they can easily undo any damage done by Shah Rukh Khan's over-acting. Not to mention, if there was a way to put SRK's stuttering laughter to good use, there couldn't be a character better than sinister Don to do it.

The theatrical promo gives enough glimpses of what a promising thriller it is likely to be. The double-crossing, double-double-crossing, use of known faces and characters from the first film - are all adding to the curiosity without giving away too much.

Technically, sure there will be lifts from all over the place, like the lift and fire sequences look like they are straight out of Die Hard or the umpteen action flicks after that. But, they look cool nevertheless.

As a part of the audience then, the only job to be done till December 23rd, is to remind yourself of the pitfalls of high expectations. Fortunately, the music of the film puts the expectations in its place. It is only good for the film because it brings the anticipation down a notch. See how positive I am. This, notwithstanding that miniature SRK dancing on a gun reminded me of this dance by Asha Parekh on an ashtray.

Damn! **fingers crossed**

Hi Meeetu,

You were spot on. Brilliant writing, screenplay and direction. Acting wise age is clearly showing on His face... Note the capital H for Him (purely intentional)... Its actually a novel that Frederick Forsyth will be proud of... Its basically a series of action sequences interspersed by the cheekiness that characterise Him...Another reason why He won't do what Anil Kapoor did for MI...Very enjoyable experience but definitely could have been better...

I think it released Europe wide on Wednesday. I guess its the day for movie releases in UK as compared to Friday in India. I do remember 3 Idiots also releasing on 23rd here (which was again a wednesday). Maybe has to do something with the festive season as well.
The movie is more day of the jackalish in that you want the bad guy (Don) to succeed.

Hi Meetu,

Not being an apologist for the movie here but I think you can justify Priyanka's confusion in the last half hour... Taking up from previous film, she had closure re her brothers death assuming Don had died... Then she fell for Vijay and linked his face to a positive association of love... 5 years down the line when the same face says earnest words to you (only for your brain to tell you its all an illusion) you will be confused... also i know every sixth human is indian but the coincidence of having these indians at each and every place is weird.... also the third person soliloquy by SRK every tenth minute regarding what don can do and what he can't simply irritates...

Meetu, I read ur review b4 watching the movie(as usual), and I carefully watched the scene with Hrithik. They don't show his 2nd thumb on the right hand. They show the hand, but I guessed they used cgi to get rid of the thumb. So, actually, the scene was done well!

Boring first half. Average crime caper story. Songs r an intrusion. Could have been 30 mins less. Great Production though, as good as Hollywood. I was trying hard to look out for the great dialogues mentioned in all reviews. SRK's swagger removes from the depth of being a Don, as r his over the top expressions. Poof & Boom r from Usual suspects.

The dialogue was rubbish.
Most scenes unbelievable. If this movie was meant to be taking Bollywood to the next century, hah forget it!

Don 2 is again an average movie but it is not as dull as SRK's don 1, its much better but how can the actress fall flat on this Don when he has just a couple of dialogues fake actually to impress her and when she has been always wanting to kill him !!!!!
How can a don move independently in a bus or a car when 'har mulkh ki police uski piche hai' hehe...silly !!!!!!!!
a lot of inconsistencies still this movie rocks for SRK fans...It has got a great Background score and an awesome music in the songs with average lyrics. average movie ...thats it !!!
Wish Don 3 has something extraordinary to offer from fight sequence to thrill to a better climax.
