So-So by Anna MM Vetticad, annavetticadgoes2themovies ...This film has many interesting individual elements but fails to lift off in its entirety. So yes, Randeep Hooda is hot, but Laal Rang is not. ... full review

So-So by Urmimala Banerjee, Bollywood Life ...While the story of Laal Rang might have faults, the performances, humour and authenticity largely makes up for it. Syed Ahmed Afzal’s earlier film Youngistaan had a novel concept and so does Laal Rang. Despite hiccups, the film touches on important aspects like how money dictates life and love in today’s times. ... full review

So-So by DHARM PATEL, BookmyShow ...Despite its well-portrayed rustic setting, the film fails to intensify with its plot. The simplistic story is not gripping enough, although it does offer a heart-warming climax. ... full review

So-So by Suparna Sharma, Deccan Chronicle ...The film has nice camerawork — aerial shots and a stunning shot of Shankar’s room, with blood bags hanging on his wall — and a terrible background score. But the actors are decent.... full review

Thumbs up by Mehul S Thakkar, Deccan Chronicle ...As a whole, the film does manage to raise issues with a strong point without being preachy. ... full review

So-So by Smita Vyas Kumar, Desi Martini ... This movie is interesting in the insight it provides into the blood bank racket and the emotional interplay between the principal characters. However, it suffers from its length and though the songs are good they slow down the pace of the movie hugely. I am also not fond of voice overs which this movie uses needlessly. The end is a bit of a cop out given the complex character of Shankar and that's a disappointment. If the editor had been more ruthless the movie would have been more dramatic and gripping. Here, there is a laziness in the action much like the blood that slowly gets transferred from illegal sachets into the hospital ones. This one is worth watching if you have the patience to sit through a needlessly long movie. Overall, I liked it. ... full review

Thumbs down by HARSHADA REGE, DNA ...Watch it if you can't do without your weekly dose of popcorn and cola, else wait for its television telecast. ... full review

So-So by Johnson Thomas, Free Press Journal ...Cinematographer Dhirendra Shukla does a magnificent job lensing this localized thriller. The visuals are framed with expertise given to creating a distinctive mood and developing a sharp tone befitting the subject matter. The music though- both background and songs, are totally off-putting. Too many unnecessary scenes detailing the ‘bromance’ mar the overall effectiveness of this venture. If only this film was shorn of some of it’s ‘bromantic’ indulgence, it would have been a much more worthier experience. ... full review

So-So by Josh, fullhyd.com ...Then, when there is a movie which uses the same two aspects but achieves a different balance between them, maybe it doesn't have to feel so bothersome. Really, who is to say what is the right balance? ... full review

Thumbs down by Vishal Verma, Glamsham.com ...The Haryanvi accent, Randeep Hooda's flamboyance (sadly nothing much can be said about his love interest Meenakshi Dixit who is a waste), Akshay's confidence, Pia bajpayee's impressive innocence, the dark humour by the little 'baba' are the highlights but the messy, easy, tepid and tedious treatment makes LAAL RANG a mere collection of elements rather than a distinct story, the movie fails to capitalize on the sobering subject of blood trafficking. ... full review

So-So by Rohit Vats, Hindustan Times ...Laal Rang has a shade grey and is much more high voltage than an ordinary thriller. Nobody could have played it better than Hooda. It’s his film. ... full review

So-So IBN Live ...'Laal Rang' becomes a tale of bromance and love more than a bloody thriller. Randeep Hooda does everything in his capacity and emerges as a star but overall the film is as average and as predictable as Monday breakfast. ... full review

So-So by Shubha Shetty-Saha, MiD DAY ...However, one must give credit to Afzal for being sensitively able to explore the growing friendship between Shankar and Rajesh and also the awkward yet sweet romance between Rajesh and his Rapidex English speaking girlfriend Poonam (Pia Bajpai). Also, he has picked the right star cast, which largely contributes to the film. While Akshay Oberoi is earnest and shows huge potential, it is Randeep Hooda who gives a killer performance in this one. One didn't have doubts about Hooda's talent earlier, but it is roles like this that fully show what he's capable of. Not many actors can come across as so hot and cool at the same time.... full review

So-So by Jaidev Hemmady, Movie Talkies ...The music is not that memorable and the plot could have been a bit pacy with a not too predictable climax. However, all said and done, Laal Rang is not a bad watch and for fans of Randeep Hooda, the film will surely be a weekend treat. ... full review

Thumbs down by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror ...Cinematographer Dhirendra Shukla lends the film a certain character by framing ambitious shots, like the one of the lead on his motorcycle snaking down a dirt path. None of the songs help furnish the mood or even make for a pleasant listen and getting French composer Mathias Duplessy to drum up a beat for "Bawli Booch" was a gamble that didn't pay off. ... full review

So-So by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV ...A small film whose impact is enhanced manifold by Randeep Hooda's presence, Laal Rang also has other bright spots. But cottoning on to them might call for patience. ... full review

So-So by Namrata Thakker, Rediff ...Frankly, it's okay if you do because Laal Rang isn't worth your money or time unless you're a die-hard Randeep Hooda fan. ... full review

Thumbs down by Namrata Joshi, The Hindu ...A jumbled up messy film, Laal Rang could have done with a little more focus. It lacks spit-and-polish and style. There are no frills and flourishes, no slickness to the filmmaking. That, ironically, is its strength, the reason why it feels so real. ... full review

Thumbs down by Mohar Basu, Times of India ...Laal Rang is half-baked and unconvincing. Despite the grit, it never becomes a riveting film. Here's a lesson to learn: Ideas don't make good films, execution does. ... full review
