quick review:

Exactly what we expected. At times, that's a good thing, getting what you came for. At other times, like this one, it is loud and insufferable.

Thumbs down by Anna Vetticad, annavetticadgoes2themovies ...The name Bahattar forms the crux of one of the film’s many lame jokes.... full review

Thumbs up by Subhash K Jha, Apun Ka Choice ...Some things never change in our cinema. Heroines may come and go. Heroes live on forever.... full review

Thumbs down by Bobby Sing, Bobby Talks ...Asin is the same as usual posing the glamour doll in the project and it seems she is simply not interested in something else even after doing so many similar acts in her previous films.... full review

Thumbs up by Prathna Tiwari, Bolly Spice ...The biggest surprise in Khiladi 786 is not the performance or the story but rather the fact that Himesh wrote such a wholesome entertainer. No doubt its one cleverly crafted script that has the potential to reel the masses in quite effortlessly. ... full review

Thumbs up by Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama ...Ashish R. Mohan, who has been an apprentice to Rohit Shetty in the past, adapts his mentor's formula of wooing the audience, stretching the term unbelievable more than it should. ... full review

So-So by Dhiren Trivedi, Bollywood Life ...This typical masala entertainer is a no-brainer, but it doesn’t fail to tickle your funny bone... full review

Thumbs up by Saumya Sharma, BookmyShow ...Himesh Reshammiya once again has composed some good music for this film, and that’s not all, he has also scripted and partly-produced the film. The only glitch comes in the part where he is credited with ‘acting’ in the film too.... full review

Thumbs down by Charu A Mahesh, Buzz in Town ...A superman kinda macho hero + unrealistic gravity defying stunts + mindless comedy + loud and bizzare characters + often cringeworthy sometimes power-packed dialogue + a hot babe (acting not necessary) + some peppy numbers + Story (not a mandate) = A 100 Crore film.... full review

Thumbs down by Deepa Gahlot, cinemaah ...Much confusion and hilarity should have ensued, but so soggy is the humour that Johnny Lever in his two-scene roles comes as a welcome relief. They all believe that shouting at the top of their lungs is comic acting.... full review

Thumbs down by Mayank Shekhar, Daily Bhaskar ...He’s scored the music, or at least picked up portions from recent tracks -- some of his own as well -- that worked. He slyly brings in RD Burman’s portraits while picturising a terrible number “Balma”. This makes you sad... full review

Thumbs down by Khalid Mohamed, Deccan Chronicle ... In-jokes abound, but come on, the gambit of the Khiladi and the wedding fixer poking fun at themselves, is hardly worth the price of a ticket.... full review

Thumbs down by Danish Bagdadi, Desi Martini ...Tripe! Utter Tripe!... full review

Thumbs down by Ameetbhuvan, Desi Martini ...Its so Bad its scary... full review

Thumbs up by Smita, Desi Martini ...A funny movie in the mindless entertainment genre. Who needs clever?... full review

So-So by Shabana Ansari, DNA ...In his patiala salwars, colourful kurtas and ornate mojris, Akshay looks every bit the Punjabi munda about to tie the knot. Asin is the same girl she has been playing in all her films while Himesh displays a flair for comedy.... full review

Thumbs down by Kanika Sikka, DNA ...Akshay is a treat for all his fans. From action to romance, from breaking bones to dancing, he goes all out for this film. Yet, he fails to put up a convincing show, which I’m quite sure was not his fault.... full review

So-So by Raidita Tandan, Filmfare ...Mithun Chakraborty, Johnny Lever and Raj Babbar make for a great supporting cast... full review

Thumbs down by Trisha Gupta, FirstPost ...We must of course disregard the fact that our hero is a man whose life consists of posing as a cop, capturing trucks full of smuggled goods and beating up people for a living.... full review

Thumbs down Free Press Journal ...The narrative is a cobbled together sequence of set-ups borrowed from recent hits, the story lacks a credible plot line and the music is just as vacuous and nasal as only Himesh can make it.... full review

So-So by Kritika Deval, ...This forms the premise of the comedy-of-errors that comes from the mill where all original ideas go to die.... full review

Thumbs down by Martin D'Souza, ...The dialogues though juvenile in some parts elicit a genuine laugh. I guess the delivery and timing has more to do with the effect on the audience. ... full review

So-So by Divya Solgama, ...Story is interesting and has perfect plot for an enjoyable no-brainer. But in films like 'Khiladi 786', along with the plot you need good amount of gags and 'moments'. Sadly, the gags here are not enough to entertain you throughout and screenplay goes for a toss after establishing the basic plot.... full review

Thumbs down by Anupama Chopra, Hindustan Times ...The trademark nasal voice insinuates itself into your brain and refuses to go away. So even as your head reels from the stupidity onscreen, you unwittingly hum along, Khiladi bhaiyya, khiladi bhaiyya.... full review

Thumbs down by Rajeev Masand, IBN Live ...At the receiving end of writer Himesh Reshammiya and director Ashish Mohan's tasteless sense of humor are dwarves, handicapped people, and particularly foreigners who're reduced to embarrassing racial stereotypes. ... full review

So-So by Swati Deogire, ...Akshay gets a hoot and a whistle from us for his performance as a Punjabi munda, a role he could enact even in his sleep now. His 100-watt smile and powerful punches (again very 'Dabangg' like) make him the perfect popcorn entertainer hero.... full review

Thumbs down by Vivek, India Entertainment ...For most part, the comedy scrapes the lowest common denominator and manages to pull of a few laughs but more so due to their silliness than genuine humour. T... full review

Thumbs down by Vinayak Chakravorty, india today ...The support cast - Himesh, Asin and Mithun included - do not get much scope, they don't need to.... full review

Thumbs down by Shubhra Gupta, indian express ...I went into `Khiladi 786’ with every intention of being amused. But within a few minutes, I knew this yet-another-wannabe-`Dabangg’-style comic actioner was going to be a long, grit-your-teeth-and-bear-it haul : the film went from bad to terrible, and stayed that way. ... full review

So-So by Gaurav Malani, indiatimes ...Unfortunately action-directors show absolute disregard in choreographing anything original and the viewer is served with the same 'done-to-death' sequences. ... full review

So-So Indicine ...An introduction song right at the beginning, one item number, a song when the hero first looks at the heroines photo, a couple of songs while they day-dream. In short, about 5-6 unnecessary songs.. a must for massy-films.... full review

So-So by Roshni Devi, koimoi ...Asin looks hot and tries hard to play the gangster’s sister. She reprises her role as the runaway bride after Ready.... full review

Thumbs down by Nandini Ramnath, Live Mint ...It’s hardly enough to sustain the running length of 2 hours and 20 minutes, but you might just find yourself occasionally sniggering without meaning to.... full review

Thumbs up by Janhavi Samant, MiD DAY ...Ashish R Mohan's debut takes its time to start off, but soon finds its tone and pace right. If it weren't for a couple of songs and some thoroughly unnecessary plot twists (say with Johny Lever, Bharati Dubey) towards the climax, the film would have been much more enjoyable.... full review

Thumbs up Movie Talkies ...Whacky humour, foot-tapping music and the inimitable Akshay Kumar...what more would an Akki fan need?... full review

Thumbs up by Aakash Barvalia, MoviezADDA ...The film is packed with lots of humour, hi-octane action sequences, hilarious funny liners, interesting drama, a perfect start and perfect end with a perfect climax, shown in a different way. ... full review

Thumbs down by Karan Anshuman, Mumbai Mirror ...To be fair, I felt it is the least cheesy movie in the cheesy category this year because it had moments of self-deprecating humour, and the women here are treated nicely. Let’s hope it doesn’t cost them.... full review

Thumbs down by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV ...Given the wild palette it dips itself into, Khiladi 786 is just the sort of film that could leave you colour blind. ... full review

Thumbs down by Mansha Rastogi, Now ...The action part of this action-comedy gets redefined here by almost doing nothing and leaving it all to your 'long-fed-with-over-the-top-action' imagination. For instance, Akshay only has to move his foot for the people around him to go flying all over. ... full review

Thumbs down by Shubir Rishi, Rediff ...Debutant director Ashish R Mohan does try, but everything becomes dim and dull because of a really weak script, with unacceptable dialogues which are constantly in bad taste, and a single-finger synthesiser which is utilised for filling in as background score. ... full review

Thumbs down by Shilpa Jamkhandikar, Reuters ...Johnny Lever is hilarious in a cameo as a police officer and Mithun Chakraborty uses his comic timing to salvage some scenes, but otherwise “Khiladi 786″ is tacky and not funny.... full review

Thumbs down by Sonia Chopra, Sify Movies ...Asin looks gorgeous and does well, but is stuck playing the love-interest yet again. They make for an interesting pair though, and the audience will like their chemistry. ... full review

Thumbs up by K N Gupta, ...Himesh Reshammiya’s topical music is a USP of the movie. ... full review

So-So by Roshmila Bhattacharya, Star Blockbuster ...And post-interval, the familiarity of it all and the sad jokes could make you turn to your cell phone for distraction.... full review

So-So by Swati Rohatgi, STARDUST ...Asin on the other hand does look fab what with all her new hairdo, reduced baggage and stylized look but gets only a feeble part to play.... full review

Thumbs down by Sudhish Kamath, The Hindu ...And that will be the first of many face-palm moments that the film throws up subsequently. ... full review

So-So by Madhureeta Mukherjee, Times of India ...Himesh is decent as a caricature-ish Gujju boy. ... full review

Thumbs down by The ThirdMan, Upper Stall ...You are truly shocked at the tacky production value of the film. Sample this - the baddie asks for 200 men to fight our Khiladi 786 for the climax but no, the production department doesn't even provide him with half that many.... full review

Thumbs down by Spicezee Bureau, ZEENEWS.COM ...As far as Himesh Reshammiya’s talent (he’s the producer, storywriter, music director, singer and actor in the film) is considered – we might need to do an entire thesis on why does this man try and burn a little of his fingers everywhere!... full review
