Cute, fun detective story taking on huge issues of the world. Juggles all of that well but becomes long-drawn in the process.

Thumbs up by Baradwaj Rangan, Blogical Conclusion, The New Sunday Express ...Anurag Basu has made a right-brain movie. I’m not sure it can be defended logically, and I’m not sure I care when the result is so mad, so magical.... full review

Thumbs up by Rohit Bhatnagar, Deccan Chronicle ...Though the film has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, the final product compensates for it all. Catering primarily to kids, Jagga Jasoos is highly entertaining and a must watch this weekend. ... full review

Thumbs up by Bhavini Trikha, Desi Martini ...Overall, you can see the efforts and hardwork put in by the entire team, especially Ranbir. Pitam’s music and Ravi Varman’s cinematography are absolutely on point. The film is an entertaining one time watch. ... full review

Thumbs up by Rahul Bharadwaj, Desi Martini ...And of course such enticing visuals , Jagga Jasoos has surely upped the ante for cinematographers. The locations are simply wow and sometimes you end up staring at the canvas and forget what is unfolding in the movie. ... full review

Thumbs up by Zinia Bandyopadhyay, Desi Martini ...In a musical, the music is definitely a high point and Pritam has proved himself in the film. The music is never overboard and once you are into the movie, there are points where you feel transported to another world. But there are also times that you feel a little out of the narrative. The consistency of the music could have been better, but nevertheless, it was good. ... full review

Thumbs up by Josh, fullhyd.com ...Perhaps that's what it takes. An appetite for five sugar cubes. An ability to be a child and summon that capacity to marvel and enjoy. There's just too much going on in Jagga Jasoos and, if you have the eye for it, too much to appreciate in every frame. It isn't a perfect film, but you can choose to focus on what it manages to be instead of what it could have been. ... full review

Thumbs up by Rohit Vats, Hindustan Times ...It’s a fantasy film that takes away the spotlight pressure from Ranbir Kapoor. This also gives him the breather to float around the theme. Basu also lets Kapoor interpret the narrative as per his will. As a result, he makes his overgrown amateurish detective believable. ... full review

Thumbs up by Ananya Bhattacharyal, india today ...Jagga Jasoos wins in the way the story is told, not necessarily in what the story is. Take a trip to Anurag Basu's fantasy land this weekend. You will not be disappointed. ... full review

Thumbs up by Ahana Bhattacharya, koimoi ...I would highly recommend watching this musical with a fresh and interesting script and nice music. This is surely one of Ranbir Kapoor’s best performances. ... full review

Thumbs up by Jaidev Hemmady, Movie Talkies ...One of the highlights of the film is its magical cinematography and Ravi Varman adds another feather to his cap with Jagga Jasoos, a film that is so colourful and vibrant that you can’t help falling in love with it. So friends, if you still enjoy reading Tintin at this age, Jagga Jasoos should surely make your weekend.... full review

Thumbs up by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror ...Basu should also be credited for his ability to keep audiences alert, concerned and interested in the proceedings for most of this film. This is a feat, especially since the premise and the props deliberately illustrate that this is, essentially, a children's film. So, how do you ensure Mummy and Papa keep their eyes on the screen and off their phones? Cinematographer Ravi Varman's frames which are so vibrant, they resemble a fidget spinner, surely help. But there's also Pritam's foot tapping music and a story that, while told through an inconvenient lyrical narration, is one worth experiencing.... full review

Thumbs up by Raja Sen, NDTV ...A Hero All Children Should Have... full review

Thumbs up by Sukanya Verma, Rediff ...Jagga Jasoos isn't a particularly bright caper. It's about seeking nirmal anand whose playful ingenuity is held together by a bag of unending tricks that lend the trip wind in its wings and cheer in its will. ... full review

So-So by Anna MM Vertticad, annavetticadgoes2themovies ...Jagga Jasoos brings together a range of quality ingredients, but something has gone wrong in the cooking of it. It is highly engaging up to a point, but needed tighter writing and direction to stay on course. The very idea of a musical action adventure blending whimsy with eastern and western sensibilities is fascinating. The plus point for me then is that a hard-core mainstream director and two out-and-out mainstream stars have invested themselves in such an experimental project. While that is not enough, it is still something worth celebrating. ... full review

So-So by Dev Raj Gulati, Desi Martini ...All in all,JJ could pick up by word of mouth,it has sequences which could draw in the kids along with their families plus their's a considerable fan following of Ranbir Kapoor . ... full review

So-So by Usha Shrivas, Desi Martini ... ... full review

So-So by Rachit Gupta, Filmfare ...Jagga Jasoos could have been so much more. But it just feels like a long and winding screenplay that tries to fit in too many clever ideas. It showcases a journey across the hills of India and the vast wilderness filled expanses of Africa too. But apart from a visual zing, the film manages little in terms of heart and emotion. Its also peppered with such rookie mistakes like a cheetah roaring like a lion and an ostrich laying an egg on the road. But then, it’s a comical, light-hearted film that's supposed to entertain younger audiences. So may be the glitches can be overlooked. But all said and done, Jagga Jasoos doesn't get its heart in the right place. And that's just disappointing. ... full review

So-So by Vishal Verma, Glamsham.com ...All said and done, JAGGA JASOOS is a missed opportunity in the end. This surprise musical fantasy solely rides on Ranbir Kapoor's infectious charm and those couple flashes of brilliance. Watch it if you have the patience and appreciation for something brave and different. ... full review

So-So by Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Gulf News ...Ranbir Kapoor’s adventure fantasy Jagga Jasoos is a creative experiment that gets its power from being zany. And this wacky comic caper requires the viewers to surrender to it completely in a child-like manner.... full review

So-So Indicine ...Conclusion: Jagga Jasoos is an adventure unlike any in Bollywood before this. The movie has potential to make the kids go crazy (especially the last half an hour or so) but it might come at the expense of the adults not finding themselves attached to the fantastical nature of the story. Jagga Jasoos sets up a fantasy world and Anurag Basu doesn’t lose the emotional grip of his story even when the sets become grander and the frames become crazier. The film drags on a bit in the second half when too many characters are introduced but it all wraps up decently by the end. If you’re in the mood to let yourself be immersed in a desi fantasy, then go watch Jagga Jasoos. If you are easily offended by unbelievable events in movies, then Jagga Jasoos will come across as just a Tintin ripoff to you. Decide wisely. ... full review

So-So by ANISH MOHANTY, Kia Gia ...Anurag Basu must be lauded for trying to bring something to the Indian audience which they have not seen before. To a good extent, he succeeds in his attempt to make a detective mystery in the format of a musical. Along with a functional script, the format seems quite appealing. A more gripping screenplay would have definitely helped the audience warm up to the film far better. One looks forward to another filmmaker making a musical in India; the only thing one would like him to do is come armed with a better script. ... full review

So-So by Manisha Lakhe, Now Running.com ...You do get frustrated with the film because you just want sequences to stop right before they get too much... But when you see a rock sitting atop a mountain, you know someone's going to lean on it and it will roll down. I loved waiting for such moments, and there were many moments like this in the film. Box Office pundits will revile a fun, adventure caper simply because the arms smuggling is a serious subject and how can such a juvenile film be made around it. But watch it simply because Ranbir has great comic timing, and Katrina - even though she looks exhausted most of the times - makes for a great sidekick. ... full review

So-So by Nandini Ramnath, Scroll.in ...This is a movie aimed at children and teenagers and the grown-ups who want to escape their adulthood and crawl back under the sheets with their books.... full review

So-So Sify Movies ...Shot across terrains in Manipur, Kolkata and South Africa, Cinematographer S. Ravi Varman's lens capture the locales in their full glory along with the animals of the region. ... full review

So-So by Nihit Bhave, Times of India ...However, through all its excitements and exhaustions, the person who keeps it entertaining is Ranbir Kapoor. He manages to make you laugh and tugs at your heartstrings by being goofy and gloomy as suddenly as required. Katrina Kaif has little to do but makes for a good sidekick to Jagga. Saswata Chatterjee’s vulnerability and Saurabh Shukla wickedness balance each other perfectly. ... full review

So-So by Ritika Handoo, ZEENEWS.COM ...Once you manage to sit through the first half, there is a sense of predictability in the script and the audience can guess what's gonna come up next. Also, why wasn't Sayani Gupta's character explained and established properly? She is a fine actor and could have added more to the film. ... full review

Thumbs down Bollywood Hungama ...On the whole, JAGGA JASOOS is a badly written and very poorly executed musical. The film doesn't offer any entertainment value for either children or adults. At the box office, the film will have a tough time. ... full review

Thumbs down by SUPARNA SHARMA, Deccan Chronicle ...Jagga Jasoos marks a milestone in his career — a film that required him ti step out of his comfort zone and devote himself to something completely new and challenging. I just wish he had kept it tighter, pacier. Though cute and funny, it also requires a patient viewing.... full review

Thumbs down by Sarita A Tanwar, DNA ...Ask yourself if you are ready to watch a script-less film with singing dialogues and there's your answer. ... full review

Thumbs down by Johnson Thomas, Free Press Journal ...The infantile antics also grave unbearably on your already frayed nerves. Anurag loses control over the material in his efforts to make a song and dance of all and sundry. What starts off as quirkily becomes painful and humour dulls down to an unbearable ache. And with a runtime that stretches all the way nearer to three hours, there’s not going to be any patience to sit through this corpulent, unproductive and largely unentertaining fantasy yarn! ... full review

Thumbs down by Mayank Shekhar, MiD DAY ...Maybe I was this film's target audience once (at least I've something to recommend to my little niece). And maybe age has nothing to do with the audience anyway. Either case, this is certainly something you haven't checked out on the Indian screen before (so what if that's not always a compliment). ... full review

Thumbs down by Rajeev Masand, News18.com ...But it’s a shame Jagga Jasoos is never more than the sum of its parts. The film’s heart – the moving father-son dynamic – is buried somewhere under all the manic Tintin-like adventure and the sensory overload it triggers. Clocking in at 2 hours and 49 minutes, much of what’s good in the film is lost amidst the many indulgences. ... full review

Thumbs down by Namrata Joshi, The Hindu ...The biggest failing of the film is that the young detective fails to acquire a unique personality of his own (as most sleuths are wont to) to sustain interest in further adventures even though the film ends with the promise of more. ... full review
