Blue

wogma rating: Watch when on TV (?)
quick review: The typically banal formula of action and skin packed in with some mind boggling underwater sequence. It will leave you with a bad after taste of what could’ve been a treat! After a while, you might feel you re watching National Geographic packaged the ‘bollywood ishtyle.’

This page has additional observations, other than the ones noted in the main review.

Warning: this section has some details that could distort your experience while watching the movie. I strongly recommend reading this only after you have seen the movie or if you have decided not to see it.

Plot Summary

Grossly unfit and rather weary looking Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) is revisited by the ghosts of his past when his estranged younger brother Sam (Zayed Khan) gets into a mess with the Mafia in Bangkok. Hot on his trail, Mafia boss Gulshan (Rahul Dev) too reaches Bahamas and kidnaps Mona. Sagar is forced to face the demons of his past and visit the ship wreck (Lady in blue) in a diving expedition to recover the treasure with Aaraav and Sam

What Worked

• The brilliant underwater photography and action sequences. • The sun soaked Bahamas. • The sun kissed Lara Dutta in her bikinis.

What did not

Note: This section simply lists the things that I did not like in this movie. This is not the overall impression about this movie. Please read the full review here

• The pot bellied Sanjay Dutt as a sea diver. • The over hyped Kylie Minogue Number • Sanjay Dutt romancing half his age Lara Dutta • Zayed Khan’s non existent acting skills • The treasure pot was just so lack luster and too easily accessible. Wonder why no one else ever found it!!

Nitty-Gritty

This section lists things that I think are not important to the overall impact of the movie. In most cases, it could be explained away by something like, "we noticed the glitch after the scene was shot and there were schedule/budget issues and thus we could not re-shoot it". I like giving the makers the benefit of doubt, but I am amused nevertheless. Hopefully, they will tickle you too.

• Kudos to fashion stylists of the movie. • I find it rather strange that even after being submerged in the ocean for almost 60 years, the jewels were sparkling.

Rahul:

Why did I have to be proved right?

B.H.Harsh:

Glad to see you not thrashing it outright like others, and mentioning whatever limited things you liked about the movie. :-)

Anoop:

I wanted to see the film before you post your review, because I had this feeling that, if I wait for your review (or any review), I might not see the film at all. So I went and saw the film on Thursday the 15th, before I could read any review.

I was right, had I waited for the review, I would have never seen it.

A boy went to the exam preparing the topic "Coconut Tree" as an Essay item. However, the examiner asked to write about "COW". So the boy wrote that a Cow is tied to a coconut tree, so that he cannot run away. And then started writing about Coconut Tree.

This movie is just the same. Its sea all around, with few characters running all around it. Lara Dutta puts up a good "show" apart from the gorgeous sea herself.

meetu:

Guys, I haven't seen the film yet but will do so soon, This review is by a guest reviewer. :)

Rahul, oh well...such is life...

B. H. Harsh thanks to Amrah who seems to have been fair.

Anoop - ha ha ha...that is some analogy. Cannot comment till I watch it though.

Will leave my comments here as soon as I see the film.

krish:

only one word for it. "DISASTRE". sorry just now i watched the movie and my mind went blue so pardon me for the spello.

Dattaprasad Godbole:

I guess their Ads said it all.Oscar Winners, Budgets , Phirangi Imports, Macho Sounding (actually ridiculous) dialogues were given more preference ads than on content of the movie. Agreed we need to show these to attract crowds, but don't over do it, all it does make content conspicuous by it's absence.

Kabir:

The film sucked big time why do they waste money.

Abhishek Nagar:

the movie SUCKS

rahul khandare:

vipin :

dont go before the critics and their disaster intending reviews.this film made bollywood to stand shoulder to shoulder with hollywood. action scenes are world class. Akshay once again proved that currently in indian cinema there is no opponent for him who can match with his deadly stunts , dont forget he's a perfect comedian. Hats off to imtiaz ali. Its a Visual treat.

Amritha:

ramen:

@Vipin
so u took money from several producers 2 write nice stuff about their crappy films...."hats off 2 Imtiaz Ali"...ROTFL!!!

meetu:

@vipin ok...what did i miss here? What does Imitiaz Ali have to do anything with anything here?

Adam:

Meetu, I check your review mainly for the Parental Guidance and your reviews are pretty good. But I must say that either you are too modern or have no family values at all!!For PAA, Your parental Guidance says none in Language except the word Bastard. Did you go out when there was talk about Sperm donation, Condom Use etc. and sexual content, you say NONE when there is a real brief love making scene in the song Muddi Muddi. What nonsense!! I will never ever read your reviews and post this on all your reviews so that everyone is aware. I took my 10 and 7 yr old daughters to see Paa based on your Parental Guidance and I m still shocked and embarassed to show them a film about Sex education!!
