I am glad you liked the movie. :-)
I really enjoyed the visual effects and the humour in the film. And can BIG B ever NOT ROCK ?
Sad to see a few critics ripping the film apart, esp. Taran Adarsh. That guy cannot ever think beyond box-office, it seems..
I know! Big B brings the screen to life even now. And this is when he's made to overact. When he's subtle he's even more amazing!!
Yeah, its a shame not too many people liked the film...oh well...
I liked it, myself - yeah, it's a bit Over-the-Top, but so would the Hollywood version be. There may have been times I'd wished Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt would just send the kids to bed and take over the movie themselves, but that's because they're so clearly having a blast playing off each other you don't want it to end. Eddie Teddy (sorry, Riteish Deshmukh) and Jacqueline Fernandez did fine given what their roles were - which was to be young, adorable, fall in love, pretend to save the day, and step back to let the old tigers do their thing. Ms. Fernandez even managed to carry off some action bits in a smoking hot Lady Zorro outfit in the climax, which suggested to me a future film with her as a desi superheroine.
Amitabh Bachchan has aged splendidly, and by now is to Indian cinema what Sean Connery was to Anglo-American films before he retired - and could very easily be that to those movies too, if anybody in Hollywood ever paid attention to what's being made in Mumbai! It was a bit of a jolt to see Munnabhai as a sly Batman-type supervillain, but he carried it off with panache. Those two should do something like GRUMPY OLD MEN or THE SUNSHINE BOYS together, because they make a great team.
The All-American Bollywood Movie Night gang really enjoyed ALADIN. I hope Eros Films didn't lose their shirts making what I've read online is "the most expensive Indian movie ever."
@TimELiebe naah, i don't think this was the most expensive ever, we've had Krissh and Drona...else, i thought it was an alright film. Maybe even like Riteish Deshmukh better than you did. The kids love this one though!
Mr. Deshmukh was okay, meetu - but he's like Zeppo Marx (who was also okay), there to be the young romantic lead. I think I liked Jacqueline Fernandez better than you did, by contrast....
Incidentally, KRISSH is great fun - where's the WOGMA review on that? Okay, I'm a Western superhero movie fan, so clearly it's right in my wheelhouse - but it was light-years better than GREEN LANTERN was....
@TimELiebe uggh...Krissh? really? Well, wogma wasn't around when Krissh released but there you go, you have my review! (and i'm a huge fan of Western Superhero films too!!)
meetu - KRISSH is another "agree to disagree" ones, I guess. I really enjoyed watching Hrithik Roshan as a superhero, and the villain was even interesting. I could see his character showing up as the head of a squad of desi superheroes helping out The Justice League - maybe with Aish Rai as an Indian Wonder Woman? :)
@TimELiebe Aish Rai as wonder woman...more uggh...UNLESS they get a marvelous story and an even better director!
