i don't think many people might be aware but there was a Marathi film made on the same subject a couple of years ago. the same story of a well being stolen and a the person proving it in court only to show how corrupt the system is.it was really engaging and the subject very refreshing (esp to us city dwellers to whom such things are completely alien).it was given a very comic tone but you couldn't miss the underlying pathos.I am slightly amused and happy that copies of Marathi films are being made by such noted directors. Shows that even tho regional, such films are more content rich.
Sonal,
The movie is not a copy of the marathi film but based on short stories "Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi" by Jeelani Bano and "Phulwa Ka Pul" by Sanjeev Kadam. Possibly 'Vihir Chorila Geli' was based on the same story.

Although the concept of the movie was nice but it failed to impress the audience.
Boman and Minissha have done a fabulous job. Movie illustrates the usual corrupt / political system. Hyderabadi accent has been copied exactly the way they speak. The Sheikh scene is also not new. Simple good movie.
