Saawariya - Notepad
Saawariya
quick review:
An everyday love story is presented as a fairy tale. The lackluster dialogues, the amateurish acting, the unwarranted slow pace all add up to a tedious watch. The only saving grace is the music.
This page has additional observations, other than the ones noted in the main review.
Plot Summary
Gulaabji (Rani Mukherjee) is narrating Ranbir Raj's (Ranbir Kapoor's) love story. Ranbir is new to Gulaabji's town and meets Sakina (Sonam Kapoor). He falls in love with her instantaneously. Will she reciprocate?
What Worked
- Rani's pronunciation of "Jesus". Didn't expect this movie to take a dig at Rakhee Sawant's diction
- Top angle shots of stairways were beautiful.
- The way the green lights shone when Ranbir and Sakina are leaving the bar.
What did not
Note: This section simply lists the things that I did not like in this movie. This
is not the overall impression about this movie. Please read the
full review here
- Rani's diction and English other than "Jesus". All sounded very forced.
- Ranbir and Sakina holding two ends of the umbrella while walking looked silly.
- Why was Sakina sending a letter to her lover, when he was expected to be with her the next day?
- What ever happened to badi ammi?

[...] at Without Giving The Movie Away is disappointed by Saawariya and considers the music its only saving grace. Speaking of enchantment, we know that the only way [...]
when oh when will Mr Bansali get rid of his delusions of grandeur and his belief in his abilities as a director?
If Black was a repeat of The Miracle Worker, Saawariya has made a mess of Visconti's La Notte Bianche. Yes, we know
he must have seen that film in his days at FTII, I too saw the film at the Archives some years ago.
But where Visconti scores is in his handling of two lonely people who await for a grand love to save them,
a situation which is all to familiar to most human beings. Marcello Mastroianni is magnificent in the role
of the lonely clerk, and the half dreamy half real setting of the village and the role of the grandmother
highlights the earthy exuberance of life as contrasted with the two lead characters.
The lover returns, and the lonely Marcello goes back to his own empty existence, having been redeemed
by a grand love which is never reciprocated.
Mr. Bansali must take some time out and think agin what does he want to do. I dont understand what does of he think of Indian public.

i like the film and its wonderful
the movie was fablous & "rapchik".Ranbir *Sonam did their job very good.............................................
I think this was a great movie, maybe not a new story line but it was wonderful. I think the very adorable Ranbir and Sonam did their part really well. I don't know way people say such crap about the movie they don't like, I don't think we should put down every new comer in the movie indrustry just because we don't like their first movie. A lot of great actors and actresses first movie were flops and now look at them they're the most known people around the world and the critics are still crap filled prople who just wish they were on the big screen. i recommend this flim for anyone who likes a good love story.
