Mubarakan - External Reviews

wogma rating: Watch if you have nothing better to do (?)
quick review:

Relatively more coherent. Still doesn't make it any more enjoyable. Madcap story but no laughs. Thankfully not too slapsticky, but all the drama is a downer.

Thumbs down by Baradwaj Rangan, Blogical Conclusion, The New Sunday Express ...A comedy lives and dies on the strength of its bits, and Mubarakan has a few. ... full review

Thumbs up by Subhash K Jha, Bolly Spice ...The writing is brisk, brusque. and innovative, though the film needed to be at least half an hour shorter. On the plus side, the cinematography (Himman Dhamija) and the background score (Amar Mohile) are super-slick and appealing. Anees keeps the humour completely free of sleaze. ... full review

So-So Bollywood Hungama ...On the whole, MUBARAKAN is a fine entertainer that should appeal to the family audiences big time. It has a strong Punjabi element that should enhance the film’s prospects in North India, Canada and Australia. At the box office, it will have a good ride for a week as it comes sans any competition. Worth a watch. ... full review

Thumbs up by Rashma Shetty Bali, Bollywood Life ...Mubarakan is one of the most entertaining films of 2017. Arjun Kapoor’s double role act and Anees Bazmee’s superb direction make it a total paisa vasool experience. ... full review

Thumbs up by Shikha Singh, BookmyShow ...It is a typical Bollywood family entertainer that you can watch with your entire family, without a doubt. For the fans of Anil Kapoor, this is another gem of a movie, where he shines amongst all the characters. This is one of the best comedies of Arjun Kapoor. Ladies, watch it for the designer stuff, you know what we mean, right? You'll regret missing this one. Book for your entire family right away. ... full review

So-So by Rohit Bhatnagar, Deccan Chronicle ...Overall, Mubarakan is a happy film which is meant for your entire family. The film will surely get back the era of clean family entertainers. Don't expect an unusual plot from the film, but it is a decent watch this weekend. ... full review

So-So by Zinia Bandyopadhyay, Desi Martini ...Overall, the film is entertaining at bits and parts, but that wasn’t sufficient to sustain a longer than 2 hours movie. You can watch this one if you have a knack for slapstick comedy, otherwise it can be given an easy miss! ... full review

So-So by Melissa Rumao, Desi Martini ...The entire movie is a complete confusion with a lot of family misunderstandings and some comic punches thrown around from time to time. Do not think much about the story and you're good to go. Its a paisa wasool family comic flick and great for people of all ages!! ... full review

Thumbs up by Tushar P. Joshi, DNA ...Mubarakan is the cleanest entertainer and deserves to be watched for its high entertainment value. ... full review

So-So by Devesh Sharma, Filmfare ...All-in-all, while Mubarakan suffers from a strained and predictable plot, its silliness does makes you laugh. So go watch the film if indulging in there hours of escapist comedy is your game... ... full review

So-So by UDITA JHUNJHUNWALA, FirstPost ...Fortunately, the humour does not degenerate to crass double entendres. Family entertainment is clearly at the core and Mubarakan manages to deliver enough laughs. ... full review

Thumbs up by Johnson Thomas, Free Press Journal ... The background score attempts to drum up some excitement all its own but fails, the song and dance (Hawa Hawa, Google) are peppy and enjoyable and the performers in this relationship circus- including the irrepressible Anil Kapoor, the ever remarkable Ratna Pathak Shah, the superbly poised Pawan Raj Malhotra and the earthily fluid expressionist Arjun Kapoor make this fluffy concoction worth a dekho!... full review

Thumbs down by Raghav Venkat, ...If the makers of Mubarakan were trying to appeal to Punjabis, it's worth asking if this one would've been a good movie in Punjabi. The answer, alas, would be categorical. ... full review

Thumbs up by Vishal Verma, ...All said and done MUBARAKAN is a complete family entertainer worth every cent of your penny spent. Go LOL with your near and dear ones. ... full review

So-So by Rohit Vats, Hindustan Times ...But that doesn’t mean you won’t be entertained. You’ll be occasionally laughing, but probably won’t be leaving the theatre with a big smile. ... full review

Thumbs down by Suhani Singh, india today ...Less tone-deaf humour, more quirks, a shorter running time and a more able younger cast and Mubarakan could have been more delightful.... full review

Thumbs up Indicine ...Overall, ‘Mubarakan’ is one of the most entertaining films of the year so far. A film that should be watched and enjoyed with the entire family. It has scenes that you recall and laugh, after the film has ended. It’s films that ‘Mubarakan’ that most of the Hindi film audience has grown up watching and it’s these kind of films that have, quite unfortunately, been missing on the silver screen. If you love clean entertainers, ‘Mubarakan’ is the film to watch this weekend. ... full review

So-So by ANISH MOHANTY, Kia Gia ...'Mubarakan' is a clean, family entertainer that delivers laughs in good measure and makes for comfort viewing. With better writing, this film could have been in the league of the best comedies Anees Bazmee has made. Even though that does not happen, 'Mubarakan' is way better than so many pointless, hare-brained comedies one gets to see these days. ... full review

So-So by Ahana Bhattacharya, koimoi ...The film leaves you feeling good and happy. An enjoyable weekend watch with kids. ... full review

So-So by Letty Mariam Abraham, MiD DAY ...While the film is largely hilarious and can leave you in splits, some elements and dialogues like Iss baar Christmas 25 ko hai? and Yeh mooli maamuli nehi hai disappoints. Having the British house help talk in Punjabi is not funny. Rahul Dev, who plays Binkle's father, is absolutely wasted in the plot and roping in Karan Kundra as her brother was a bad idea. Continuing Bazmee's formulaic mix, 'Mubarakan' is perfect film for a family weekend. The music goes hand in hand with the film. It is indeed paisa vasool and a fun watch. ... full review

So-So by Jaidev Hemmady, Movie Talkies ...To use a much-abused phrase, Mubarakan is total 'paisa vasool' fare... ... full review

Thumbs up by Prashant Shishodia, NDTV ... ... full review

Thumbs up by Manisha Lakhe, Now ...Anil Kapoor is simply fabulous, and you cannot miss the mad, high energy performance of the man. Watch! ... full review

Thumbs up by Prasanna D Zore, Rediff ...There is no doubt in my mind that I'd watch Mubarakan again and again just for its clean dialogues and clean comic punches; just like Andaz Apna Apna or Hera Pheri. I can bet that you won't disagree with me.... full review

Thumbs up Sify Movies ...The songs are an aberration to the narrative. It simply breaks the impact, especially the songs with the lyrics, Hawa hawaa and Tu Google pa ke nacha. While the first half of the film is a breezy laugh-a-minute riot, the second half tends to be a bit melodramatic and preachy. ... full review

So-So by Meena Iyer, Times of India ...Anil is the scene-stealer with his half Brit-half Punjabi act lifting the film throughout. Arjun’s double-act allows for some smiles and the girls, Ileana, Athiya and Neha are easy on the eye, though they’re just decorative set-pieces. ... full review
