Chaalis Chauraasi - Preview
A crime-cum-situational comedy that starts out with witty one-liners and some awesome comic timing by the finest of performers fizzles out after the first half hour. A decent basic plot riddled by need for item numbers and long-drawn scenes that make the writers look clueless.

Chaalis Chauraasi's trailer says pretty much zilch about the film. You sort-of kind-of make out that the four characters are probably acting like police officers to pull something off. What? We don't know. Our assumption, that they are acting like officers and aren't really cops, is on shaky grounds too. All we know is they have no plan for whatever it is they are planning on doing.
But, and a good enough 'but', it is, what we know is that we have an awesome cast. Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon,¸Atul Kulkarni, and Ravi Kishan. Sure, Ravi Kishan isn't someone you always look forward to but he's entertained every once in a while. That makes it 3.5 out of 4 for actors! And Chaalis Chauraasi supposedly has 26 principal actors.
I haven't seen any of the films by director, Hriday Shetty, but I shall derive my sliver of hope from the fact that he seems to not approve of his step-brother, Rohit Shetty's style of film-making. I'm looking forward to the film based on just these two facts - the cast and a certain peace that there's a chance it won't be like a Shetty film.
It is a week of small films and I have a film festival to look forward to. So, even if it doesn’t work out there might be some other film that will work.
