Ratings

  • Finding Fanny: So-So: One time watch but could have been much better
  • Barfi!: So-So: Far too many "inspired" sequences ruin what could have been a good enough film.
  • Ek Tha Tiger: Nay! Thumbs Down: Typical Bollywood puppy love masquerading as a espionage thriller...
  • That Girl In Yellow Boots: Yay! Thumbs Up: Good but wanted a bit more...
  • Singham: Nay! Thumbs Down: inconsistent tone, harebrained characters, poor action choreography
  • Shagird: Yay! Thumbs Up: Decent crime caper with coruupt cops and politicians.
  • The Murder of Roger Ackroyd: Yay! Thumbs Up:
  • 7 khoon maaf: So-So: Not satisfactory, drags a bit towards the end. Strong performances, especially liked Annu Kapoor.
  • Rakht Charitra I: Yay! Thumbs Up: Enjoyable political slasher movie with some one dimensional yet intense performances...

Taking too literally? I am just pointing out to the money they spend in foreign shoots in meaningless shots while complain about budget and stuff when question about quality...

    @rest
If Dabang, Singham, Ghajini and Agneepath (new) etc are "classics" let us remove the word trash from dictionary...

Dabang just makes it as a retro reference movie but thats about it.

Singham was one of the most retarded films and no its action was not old school types. It follows the same style as all south remake genre follows where over the top makes the scenes comical rather than rousing. Besides it did not even deliver what it promised. There was no big showdown at the end. Just some stupid change of heart of all his colleagues.

Ghajini... remake of a ripoff... less said the better...

Agnipath Remake... instead of Big B's eloquent baritone we get HRs strained, laboured diction and he sheds more glycerin than blood for a revenge movie.

Glad to inform the 100 crore fanatics (150 crore nowadays) that it has had a below average opening... only so much trash can a society take!

The action looks horrible and comical in the trailer itself but that is the trademark for this genre... having the kill bill sword and colour palette does not make it sleek... action can be effective in two ways, either by old school, earthy violence (like Gadar and older Bolly action films) or by poetic choreography and ace CGI (Matrix, Kill Bill)

Bollywood has lost its roots and not sophisticated or talented or even willing enough to achieve the later (Now do not give the excuse of budget... they waste enough money in inconsequential Switzerland songs)...

  • Finding Fanny:

Yet again the guy is repeating the same crap about box office. The broad generalization you display in every comment just shows your complete lack of understanding in general...

who do you think are the "masses" and who do you thing are the "pseudos"?... take the children of one of your massy guy, expose them to less embarrassing and asinine films and good literature and see how they spit on your choices after a few years...

  • Finding Fanny:

Saw it... did not maintain momentum or reach any significant heights at any point... but a decent watch still with a mildly amusing feel that is maintained throughout...

and for the crusaders of "entertainment", even this sub par film was far more entertaining than any of the 100 crore snoozfests although you will never believe it... I can't even imagine how can some people consistently wage war on public forums to bat for third rate film like Singham...

and what on earth is this box office quoting game?... Many corrupt and incompetent leaders win elections... since when does momentary popularity indicate quality?

Also, not to mention that some of these box office numbers are also doubtful... different sites quite different numbers and there is no genuine authority in this country for film earnings. I saw Vinod Mirani calling Singham 2 a flop... take that box office fanatics...

  • Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty:

The worst part in such films is the absence of real actors who can play villains... nowadays the villains also are the same as the heroes, well groomed non-actors... the hunks with powerful family backing gets to be the hero... rest become villains...

Best way to spot a desperate Bollyfan...

Will try to justify his non existent point by dragging Avatar, a sub-par yet goodlooking film at the best... because that's the extent of his exposure...

oh yes.. krish 3... even god allah and bhagwan can't save its abominable OST...

the film is gonna suck too... and no, that doesn't make me a Ranbir fan...

and also, I know that it will make money as fanboys will make themselves poorer by watching it repeatedly, but that doesn't change the obvious...

It is strange to see such loyal followers for such trashy movies who hound every critic not in awe of such films...

Blue was one of the worsts films ever made and the fans should be happy that the director got to make another one...

    @fan
Just because its an epistolary film, it doesn't mean that it is a rehash of YGM... besides YGM itself was a rehash of Shop Around the Corner (1940)...

Besides, I don't think any serious cinephile would put Basu and Kashyap in the same level...

One doesn't have to rant for the sake of ranting...

It is sad that the film is already facing negative vibes from he hardcore commercial establishment...

Look at BH's music rating... for that matter, I saw one music channel predicting the film to be "Thanda"... of course they don't affect my opinion but I'm afraid they predict the general mood in the market...

Doesnt the plot remind you of 80s Zeenat starrer Baat Ban Jaye?

  • Barfi!:

Not a bad film but would not call it great. I think g2/g10 has covered some of my issues...

But more than that, what was disturbing me was scores of "inspired" scenes. One or tow scenes can be considered either coincidences or tributes but with so many from so many different films, it is difficult to appreciate.

& no I wasnt trying hard to find flaws... but I was repeatedly being reminded of various other films I'd seen before...

  • Ek Tha Tiger:

    Hated it...
I was not supposed to watch anyways, but got confused by some very favorable reviews...

Another romantic film! I am still waiting for a real espionage thriller from Bollywood... & enough of this Indo-Pak love stories... yes I got the point, Bollywood means well but there are other things you can talk about...

Saw some people praising Katrina's stunts... I'm sure it was some stuntwoman who will never be known...

  • That Girl In Yellow Boots:

A good film and as usual this AK film also gives us some delightful new actors in the supporting roles....

As films with women protagonists are rare, it was a refreshing experience. Although the shock part is relative, especially for a Kashyap film, taboo topics no longer shocking.

I found Nasir's character to be a bit unconvincing. His reaction on learning what Ruth does for a living is hard to believe... as a regular customer he never guessed it??

  • Singham:

It sucked... dunno why people are calling it a good actioner when there is no action in the climax...

Besides, the tone is not consistent and the jokes and the serious part do not gel...

I am not a Dabangg fan either, but at least it was consistent in tone throughout the film...

Also, I'm sick of these comical action sequences with incompetent CGI... if you are making an action film, please take action seriously... forget slo-mos & gimme sunny deol of yore anyday...

  • Shagird:

I liked it. Nothing particualrly new and towards the end drags a bit too much with repeated twists. But still worth a watch for Nana alone. His cinephile persona and obvious Himesh bashing was worth the money.

  • The Murder of Roger Ackroyd:

David Suchet is the definitive Poirot... AFter watching almost all of his works I tried watching an older film with another actor as Poirot but couldn't finish that...

It is true that the makers of this series makes certain changes in teh original storyline but nevetheless, meticulous attention to period details and excellent production values make it one of teh best serieses ever.... Personally I even like the recurring side characters like Hastings, Inspector Japp & Ms Lemon...

I want 2 watch this film simply because it deals with that issue...just like the powerless common men enjoyed the corrupt getting beaten up in the 70s & 80s, I'm going 2 enjoy those bigots getting beaten up...

but as u know...it again has originality issues plotwise...it'll dilute the impact...

I don't care about the music in such a film & it'll be better if the songs flop & get edited out....

  • I Hate Luv Storys:

There is a huge potential for spoofing the cliches of Bollywood...but IHLS doesn't seem to be tht film...I think it'll start well but fall back to the same formula it is looking to deride as the lead actor realizes his "true love" and so on...the reason for such premonitions is the sentimental song "Bin Tere"...

Just as was being expected...For Bollywood going international means shooting out there, like them and with them...now, why should the Goras pay to watch this when they have seen such sleek car chases and stunts umpteenth times in their films....

Anyway I think the Indian audience will still lap it up just like they did with Dhoom 2...

well...you have given 2.5 out of 5 for the story. If this is the standard then story doesn't exist in Bollywood!
in fact it was one of the most well told stories in Hindi cinema.
And the twists have to be accepted because there is no way of "verifying" the twists of a fictional plot. That's part of a story and there is no point of questioning that.
