Such a great movie.. and after sooo long.. Imitiaz ali is amazing.. One has to see what a great director is he. He holds the story together like anything. The pace of the movie is fast.. But what amazes me is that he could find the exact pulse of youth today ..Story actually hits the nail right on the head!
No, I think its because of expectations. I think its the other way round.. Since he had given an intelligent awesome movie last time, we see him in a better light and so the movie is also well received. Had it been any other (god, forbid) a new director.. no one would have bothered. Even I enjoyed bits and pieces of it, but there were huge turnoffs.. like the heaven scene in pristine white (lol!) and come on Meetu stick to ur guns.. u didnt like jab we met and jaane tu because of similar flaws!!!!
I am surprised you have that positive a review about this movie. Although shot beautifully, I still feel it was a great street play, but the story and the thread through the whole gamut of characters and mini-stories were missing.. and in the end someone realised oh we have to have something, some issue.. so the issue was put. The love story was downright irritating.. you never know why and how characters start feeling for each other...! So many issues just touched upon.. but no light on whatsoever... but yes they did not forget to spell out the m-e-s-s-a-g-e of the movie (which they themselves might have realised very late), to the extent of becoming downright preachy! a dissapointment!
Hey Meetu, Great review.. I really liked the movie.. I think Priyanka Chopra has given a fabulous performance. When I was going to see this movie, I was actually a little apprehensive as it was a Madhur Bhandarkar movie and I was awaiting my dose of the big bad world of Fashion. But surprisingly.. As any industry, 'Fashion' Industry in Fashion had high and low points. As you have correctly put, It was very matter of fact. Coming from the same industry, I can vouch.. nothing was dramatized or underplayed.. It is just the way it is. Madhur Bhandarkar's research was bang on and the best part was he didnt rub that in our faces. He rightly focussed on the story of a woman and her relationships which evolve through her journey against an interesting and unusual backdrop.
Hail the Kings of the worlds!!.. How king-hungry are we?.. One undeserving King after the other.. Cant get over the movie... My memory has managed to mix Welcome and Sinngh and Kinng (please dont mind the misplaced "N"s), and I am not able to differentiate between the movies. :S
Awesome movie! There are good movies and there are great movies. What made this movie great was "not to obvious" bits and Heath Ledger's superb performance.
wow.. I am flattered. :) Last year I attended most of the movies. (Best being Jaagte Raho on big screen!) But then I was on a vacation, I would be really lucky even if I can attend couple of movies this year. That wont be fair to the festival at all.. Thanks anyways :) Nisha
Hey Meetu, good to see that my comments got published.. I was a little apprehensive :)
Anyways, I am not in habit of giving comments until and unless they become indispensible. I was shocked to see the review for Jab we met and same thing happened for Jaane tu.. Do you see a similarity? Its not as if I am a big fan of feel good movies. Maybe you have to give them some brownie points. Maybe somewhere everything in these movie adds up so that the viewer leaves with a big grin pasted on his face and remembers it for next few weeks. Anyways thats just my opinion. Would you be covering Osian's btw if you are delhi based? They show some great movies there.I saw quite a few last year, and great collection I must admit. Hope to see you there.
I think its an awesome movie. I have been following your reviews for quite some time and I have noticed that the seriousness about the cinema which seeped in after you had gone for the course in Film appreciation. However, I would like to say I know camera angles etc are important. But every movie has its own flavor. I see most movies in the theatre and what I like watching is the energy a movie generates amongst the crowd and how engaging it is.
Although Aamir might have been a great movie with everything technically correct, it was a little too long for people to stick around and watch intently. Jaane tu.. might not have been technically correct but the crowds went crazy watching it, loving it. Is that totally irrelevant when you review a movie? When readers like me come looking for a movie review, what exactly are they looking for? an entertaining and engaging movie or a technically correct movies with a balanced number of longshot, medium shots and closeups? Kindly reconsider your rating which tripe like De taali, mindless Thoda pyar thoda magic, dhamaal, dus kahaaniyan.. have also got. Thanks
Hey
Why not review Japanese Wife..? Or have you reviewed that earlier. Its an awesome movie! :-)
God.. what was is it about? I am still quite perplexed!
Congrats!
I saw Kaminey! Shall wait for u to review it though!

I happened to catch the movie and really its pretty bad. Highly unbelievable. Too many faults in the story. Pretty pathetic.
