  • The Pink Panther 2:

    Yes, that is right, Martin is desperately unfunny, and all these talented actors are wasted. Yes, the writing is really bad!
    I am not a big fan of Ms Rai, but all she does here is to show a bit of cleavage!

  • Rashomon, Kurosawa, and the Nature of Meaning - Part 1:

    Yes, Subrat, Kurosawa does not deny that the man is dead, the story of the protagonists is clear on the "physical" or "objective / tangible / sense" perception elements. One can argue that that is also a result of the social group and its norms that define what is "real" or not.
    But yes, what is the nature of truth, seems to be the question that Kurosawa asks?
    Is there really an "objective" truth, or does truth exist only as a "subjective" chain of cause and effect?
    Cause and effect is what we want when we speak about the truth, isn't it?
    And therefore isn't "justice" a subjective decision, as decided by the social group's norms and especially by those who wield power?
    One can then look at the whole concept of "justice" and "truth" which are two completely different concepts!

    Hi Kunal, if you could explain what that means, would try to do the honours!
    Thanks for the compliment.

  • Manorama Six Feet Under:

    Hi, Prashant, the point is that the movie is good and not necessarily my review!

  • Batman - The Dark Knight:

    @Rupa, well it all depends on how strong one's core is!

  • Manorama Six Feet Under:

    @Ram Yes, let us hope so! But our heroes do all these things, because they need to make money, and ultimately it is an industry.
    If you are a director with good films and are talented, but you do not make a "hit" film then you have no chance in maistream bollywood, that is the state of affairs.

  • Manorama Six Feet Under:

    @lash, it is his first movie, but he has worked on the Chinatown script and made it his own. The script of Chinatown is probably the best script ever in Hollywood, by Robert Towne, if I remember correctly.
    It is de rigeur to analyse it all the script writing classes.

  • Batman - The Dark Knight:

    @Mayur, yes, there is no need to fight! The
    Joker character also mentions his father at the party, when he tells the old man that he reminds him of the father.
    My interpretation is based on the view that from a psychoanalytic perspective Order which the Joker is against, is symbolic of the Father, while unconditional love is symbolic of the Mother.
    Also have been a long time Batman comic fan, and have read Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns many many times, which is one of the so called inspirations for the movie. So that is where I come from!

  • Batman - The Dark Knight:

    @Mayur,
    That is right, but the Joker does talk about his father at least a couple of times! Nolan was smart enough not have a backstory for the Joker; for Batman he dealt with backstory in detail in Batman Begins.
    And this is an inference based on available details!

  • Batman - The Dark Knight:

    @JJ
    I have not used the word faultless anywhere in the movie and no 100 percent because that would mean that there is an ideal standard somewhere for the perfect movie!
    Obviously there is not, the director has done a fine job, and that is why the high ratings.
    One can find faults in anything and as I said that is not the purpose. There are so called critics who come in with a mindset of "finding fault", but I do not consider myself a critic, just someone who loves cinema, having seen many and having made one so far!

    Yes, Nisha, absolutely. Do get hold and read the Graphic novels that I mentioned in the review!

  • Batman - The Dark Knight:

    Hi JJ,

    From my point of view, a review is not just an exercise in criticism! And please remember the numbers are ratings and not marks, so if I had given five out of five, it would be like scoring 100 percent!
