There are very few times that you go to watch a movie and you get to smile, feel sad, excited, dreamy and fall in love all at the same time. Slumdog Millionaire gives you all that and much more. In a unique setup the movie is so close to real life and at the same time takes you on a fantasy flight.
It’s fast paced and touches upon big issues (like poverty, slums, religious riots, beggars of Mumbai, young criminals) in bits but still succeeds in making a huge impact on the viewers. The brilliantly shot chase sequence at the start sets you right into this fast moving story. The brilliant background music sets the tone for rest of the journey. I loved the way Hindi is used in the start of the movie to bring the authentic experience for the viewers.
Smart use of background score helps you in shifting to completely different scenarios with ease. There are very few movies that can make you feel the pain, joy and emotions as the scenes flip by but Slumdog Millionaire does that with simplicity. The work put into making the movie be it script, story, screenplay or the music shows. All of this has been backed by excellent direction and brilliant acting by everyone. I tried hard to find a weak character in the movie but failed.
Though it walks through some of the most complex situations yet it is a very simple movie and I believe that is what you would experience while watching it. The switch from Hindi to English comes as a bump on a road but again you are eased through the change with help of good background music. And for those who think that an illiterate kid on Indian streets cannot speak English you surely haven't been to Mumbai. The climax will give you a heightened sense of achievement, winning, content, sacrifice and excitement; and just like the rest of movie, all at the same time!
Director Danny Boyle has pulled of an absolute peach of a movie. I am sure Co-Director Loveleen Tandan has helped him in capturing the right kind of Mumbai setup for the movie, which is the essence of the story. Another thing that makes Slumdog Millionaire a unique experience is the brilliant screenplay, thanks to Simon Beaufoy. All the actors look in control of their character be it Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Tanay Chheda or the kids Azharuddin and Ayush. Anil Kapoor pulls off his role brilliantly. Remember he was supposed to fill in the shoes of Amitabh Bachhan and Shahrukh Khan as game show host, but then he twists it around and adds his own touch to the character. Convincing you that being in Bollywood for more than 2 decades he knows his business. The real star of the movie is A R Rahman with his superb background score especially the pieces "O Saya" and "Latika's Theme" which you will end up humming long after the movie is over.
Thinking about the movie on my way back to home I was caught up in confusion if it is a movie about dreams, hope, sore relations, the reality of life of a slumdog or is it about the luck of a random boy. I am convinced that it is about all that but more than that it is about love. Yes it is a love story.

Since you are reviewing a movie which hasn't been released, I am assuming that you support piracy? Thanks!
after a long boozing new year party hang over i start scrolling through imdb to know about happenings in film industry.................it was then when i first came across this title. going through reviews i decided to watch it..................and i did so. as the movie began i was happy to realize that i am starting my new year with such a nice pic. opening scene was good and as usual rahman music was fantastic. evry thing was going on fine.....and my expectations also started to gear up.............but after 30 mins i realized d big mistake i have done. dis movie forced me to believe that this world is sooo SMALL............ i seldom get a chance to catch up my friends in mumbai.......and in this movie one of our musketeer met his old old friend and girl & friend so easily while just passing through a subway. and then in next few mins evry thing happens so fast that if director would have maintain that pace then the whole movie would have bind up in next 20 or so mins...... and how can i forget the scene in which jamal called his brother for first time after such a long break ............what a good hit and trial case.............our mathematicians would have never created a topic of probability if they have watched this movie.....................hahahahahaha i think if a director really want to portray a slum life of mumbai on 70 mm screen then they should atleast watch salaam bombay so that they should clearly understand what a slum life of mumbai is. after watchin movies like crimson gold, bicycle thief, taste of cherry and also d most recent dasvidaniya......................i just don't feel to suggest anybody to watch this movie. this movie again strengthen my belief that majority of indians are only fond of MASALA movie and nothing else.......and dany has proved it by making a movie which will be liked by all of us.
Oh no, no way. Ram, I attended a preview of Slumdog in London and it is released here on 9th Jan. Slumdog Millionaire will be released in India with a different name, Slumdog Crorepati.
God damn, you really think so? Realistic, hah!
Yes I happened to see this movie.. and i am not going to review this movie and praise it from top to bottom cos its just all above it.. The movie is fantabulous( if thats a word) It starts off amazingly well and ends with a perfect bollywood ending although it being made by a foreign director DANNY BOYLE. The movie basically gives you a message that there are certain things that you learn in your life which are really unknown to you. It says that each day that u live is itself a learning process for you and nothing is wasted. True underdog.. or whatever u call it.. rags to riches story. Depicted mumbai slums and mumbai as bollywood movie has ever done it. Although many ppl have raised objections abt showing mumbai in a negative light but thats how it is right. People have seen the malls the sky rises and the marine drives.. nobody has shown the largest slum in asia properly. The performances are just mind blowing. A special mention abt the kid JAMAL in the movie he gives a heartwarming performance. Anil Kapoor plays a nice host with smirks and sarcasm involved referring JAMAL as chaiwala again and again. Irfan Khan had a miniscule role but excelled there too. the main leads DEV PATEL AND FREIDA PINTO .. are the actual stars of the movie. and yea a special mention to the soundtrack... it deserves all the awards and da accolades.. A.R Rahman at it again.. give an ear to RINGA RING , MILLIONAIRE , JAI HO, O SAYA supercool numbers!! In the end the movie is a must must watch and i hope for OSCARS .. its all JAI HO !!!!!!!.. RATINGS - 4.5/5
Even though SlumDog Baged 2 Oscars its not Rahman's Best one. Chaiya Chaiya is 100 times better than JaiHo
