As an intelligent thriller, it works. As a poke to social conscience, can movies do more than poke?

Thumbs up by IANS, Sify Movies ...Overall, Madaari is an absolute treat both for cine-goers and every citizen of India, who is concerned about his country. ... full review

Thumbs up by Renuka Vyavahare, Times of India ...Kamat's execution falters a bit though. He tries too hard to be ambiguous at times, when a simple storytelling could have been as effective. However, overall, his intent deserves an applause as Madaari shames the trend of rising apathy that is often misconstrued as resilience. ... full review

Thumbs up by IANS, ZEENEWS.COM ...Overall, ‘Madaari’ is an absolute treat both for cine-goers and every citizen of India, who is concerned about his country. ... full review

So-So by Anna MM Vetticad, annavetticadgoes2themovies ...If the surname Khan has become synonymous with superstardom in the Bollywood lexicon, then the name Irrfan should be officially recognised as an adjective for quality acting. This Khan makes Madaari a film worth watching. And his presence in contemporary cinema, makes this world a better place to live in. ... full review

So-So Bollywood Hungama ...On the whole MADAARI comes across as a thriller which holds your attention only in parts. It lacks consistency and punch and will therefore appeal to a limited set of audience. At the box office, its business prospects will be limited. ... full review

So-So by Sreeju Sudhakaran, Bollywood Life ...Madaari may have its heart in the right place, but an average direction and flawed narrative let down the movie’s honest intentions. Watch it only for a terrific Irrfan Khan! But then, the man is good even he is being shown just sitting on a bench! ... full review

So-So by Deepa Gahlot, cinemaah ...The film is well-intentioned and has some powerful scenes and a few pithy lines, plus an outstanding performance by Irrfan Khan, but as a ‘voice of the common citizen’ it does not quite work. The anti-politician vigilante does even see the irony in the huge outlay of public funds spent to track him. ... full review

So-So by Rohit Bhatnagar, Deccan Chronicle ...While high on the emotional value, the film does have certain loopholes. How Irrfan manages to get a WiFi connection in Rajasthan’s deserts or how shifts his place abruptly while he is calling the ministry from the bus stuck out like a sore thumb. Overall, the film would do well with those who like movies based on the message of anti-corruption. And yes, Nishikant has even more to do this time around. Madaari is certainly an eye-opener for those who want to be a part of social awakening in our society. The movie is a great watch for the weekend. ... full review

So-So by Ameet Bhuvan, Desi Martini ...Like Naseeruddin in Wednesday, Irrfan leads the film on his shoulders. Like Anupam in the former, Jimmy provides the correct foil. Watch Madari just for their sake. They make it worth the effort and money. ... full review

So-So by Sidhant Shori, Desi Martini ...Madaari is definitely worth a watch if you’re into suspense. Although the movies length does dull that quite a bit, as does the needless attention it gives to all societal issues it can cram. The plot may not have some crazy twists, but it's all the better for it. It’s not a must watch, but you definitely won’t regret watching it. ... full review

So-So by Krish Sripada, Desi Martini ...The movie could have been better had the chemistry between Nirmal and the 8 year old son of the home minister, Rohan, evolved. But, it doesn't. The low-budget movie fails to strike a chord as the flat OST and insipid dialogues only do the job, nothing more. That efficiency would have helped if there was a saving grace in the screenplay or at least some wit as it was promised early in the movie. But that was not to be. Madaari was not a bad movie. It was made well. Irrfan was brilliant. But, by the end of it, you find yourself wondering, 'why beat the drum we all have heard a hundred times'. ... full review

So-So by Bryan Durham, DNA ...Watch it once for Irrfan, who's the beating heart of this film. It's a film that could have gone for gold, but settles for lesser. ... full review

So-So by Rachit Gupta, Filmfare ...Despite its honest appeal, Madaari is a flawed film. The main problem is that where the treatment of the film by director Nishikant Kamath should've been subtle, like the dialogue driven conversations of his screenplay, his choices are the exact opposite. He chooses to engage the drama with loud blaring background music with thundering effects that you'd expect from a Michael Bay film. This particular theatrical treatment becomes all the more obvious in the second half, robbing the film of moments that could break your heart. Instead, you sit there and marvel at a no-holds-barred climax where a lot of actual political truth is revealed in a jingoistic tone. ... full review

So-So by Ronita Torcato , Free Press Journal ...‘Madaari’ doesn’t quite work as a thrill-a-minute suspense thriller but just about manages to stay interesting thanks to the two redoubtable actors steering it through the morass of déjà vu mindset impeded by contrivance and convenience. ... full review

So-So by RAJEEV MASAND, IBN Live ...I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five for Madaari. Arguably one of the finest actors of our times, Irrfan Khan deserves films worthy of his talent. This one comes up short. ... full review

So-So by Suhani Singh, india today ...Is Nirmal's outrage enough to change the system? For a film which makes a call for cleaning up the system, its last scene is rather off putting. Kamath's second release of the year is better than his earlier effort, Rocky Handsome. Here the saving grace is Irrfan's act. He truly is the Madaari here. ... full review

So-So by UDITA JHUNJHUNWALA, Live Mint ...The narrative is not entirely smooth, the direction is uneven, the screenplay flirts with unnecessary cleverness and a pre-interval ballad makes you groan. But Irrfan Khan’s soaring performance compensates for many of these niggles and leaves you thinking about the common man’s angst. ... full review

So-So by Shaheen Parkar , MiD DAY ...Watch it only for Irrfan and to know why he is top of the heap when it comes to histrionics. ... full review

So-So by Kunal Guha, Mumbai Mirror ...Madaari is saved to large extent by its eponymous lead Irrfan Khan, who manages a striking performance, despite the predictable storyline. Child actor Vishesh Bansal has a fair share of screen space and delivers on the job. Jimmy Shergill, though largely marginalised after an elaborate introduction, is unobjectionable. Returning to the big screen after long, Tushar Dalvi is as dependable as ever. ... full review

So-So by Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV ...Unfortunately, by the time Madaari gets there, the hero's life and death gambit turns into a disappointingly tame, mechanical rigmarole. ... full review

So-So by Rummana, yahoo! India ...I would have loved this film had the story been taut and the plot a tad bit restrained in its narrative. ‘Madaari’ is engaging but not enough to keep you hooked throughout. ... full review

Thumbs down by Vishal Verma, ...The kid Vishesh Bansal as Rohan Goswami is excellent. Jimmy Shergill as the investigating officer is fine in the available footage. Tushar Dalvi as the home minister is good. ... full review

Thumbs down by Sweta Kaushal, Hindustan Times ...Ultimately though, Madaari crumbles under its own lofty ideals and ambition. The slow pace makes the fall even more painful and enduring. And that it had two brilliant actors in Irrfan and Jimmy, who were grossly under-used, only adds to injury. ... full review

Thumbs down by Surabhi Redkar, koimoi ...Madaari is a lost cause. The story in spite of having potential, fails at execution and thanks to its dramatic discourse, shifts away from its focus. I am going with a 2/5 for the film. ... full review

Thumbs down by Jaidev Hemmady, Movie Talkies ...''Shhhh…Desh so raha hai'', goes the tagline below the film title, but the movie itself seems determined to put you to sleep! ... full review

Thumbs down by Savera R Someshwar, Rediff ...We need movies that will motivate us to teach our children the value of doing things the right way. ... full review

Thumbs down by Namrata Joshi, The Hindu ...Wish the film had remained a layered compendium of these unique father-son stories or a heart-rending chronicle of grief than a facile rant against the corruption in the system and the power hungry politicians. ... full review
